Kamukura Ramen anyone?

in Foodies Bee Hive2 years ago

I've been craving ramen for a long time and finally, out of the blue, my partner said he'd treat me to ramen one Sunday night.

Since we moved to Tokyo, I rarely eat ramen. I know, I'm in Japan and I could have eaten tons of ramen everyday but that's not really the case for me. My partner is super picky with ramen, probably because he was raised in Nara Prefecture and had the best ramen in the Kansai region. He would often compare the ramen here in the capital to the ramen in Kansai, and of course, the ramen outside Tokyo always wins.

Let's eat!

Out of all the ramen shops in Tokyo, there's one that we both love but it's far from our place so it's not super accessible. We tried to look for a replacement that's within our reach and we decided Kamukura Ramen it is.

Kamukura Ramen started as a small shop in Osaka in 1896 and now it has a lot of shops all over Japan. TBH when I was in Osaka, I would often pass one of their branches but never really had the guts to dine in. My partner though went to Kamukura Ramen shops many times, in Nara Prefecture so he is so familiar with the taste.

Sign outside

The shop at Kabukicho, Shinjuku

The Kamukura Ramen shop we went to is in the red light district of Tokyo, Kabukicho. You would often see me blogging about this place, it's kinda near our home. It's not so visible because the shop isn't on the main road, but a slight look to your right when you enter the premises, you'll find this shop with its not-so-bright lights.

MenuMenu

I ordered their Chashu Ramen and gyoza. I believe ramen should be eaten with gyoza, so I would always order this side whenever it's available. My partner wanted to try their new menu which is beef cold ramen but in the end, he order the signature Oishi Ramen but with addon chashu. He got the set though which has ramen, karaage (or Japanese fried chicken), and rice.

Ticket machine outside

We ordered from this ticket machine outside the store. Good thing we had cash as this machine doesn't accept cashless payments except for IC cards. After we got our tickets, it's time to enter the shop!

Inside the shop

This isn't our first time in this shop so we were surprised to see lots of people and a bit noisy environment at this time. There were a bunch of tourists than Japanese in the shop and it's fun to hear them talk in English. My partner and I would often exchange stares whenever we hear something interesting. Marites English version 😆

Oishi Ramen with egg and more chashu

Within a few minutes of waiting, our orders arrived. They serve the ramen in a big bowl like this. Oishi Ramen is indeed oishii which means delicious in English. My Chashu Ramen is the same as Oishi Ramen, but with more pork so it's still kinda their signature dish.

Their gyoza and karaage were both good. I didn't manage to eat a lot of fried chicken because I'm avoiding deep-fried food but my partner was able to finish them all, as usual. Their gyoza was fine, as always but I would want it to be a little bit more cooked.

Gyoza

Crispy karaage

We added the egg to the ramen because there's none to their signature ramen. They won't mind breaking it in half just like you'll often see in ramen photos but it's still good. There are also a bunch of other toppings, vegetable toppings, but we're already fine with what we ordered.

Look at that meat

This is actually the first time that I managed to almost finish my ramen in this shop. I was that hungry I guess. Even my partner was surprised. 😆 But I think their ramen improved compared to the last time we were here.

Ramen from Kamukura

Out of all the ramen shops I've been, I'd give this ramen a 7.5 out of 10. Probably the broth wasn't to my liking..? Or probably too much cabbage? I'm not entirely sure but I know something's missing.

It's not really my favorite ramen but I'll still be coming back whenever I need a ramen fix. 😊 If you would come to Japan, would you try the Kamukura Ramen?

Hahaha kung pwede lang..

May masarap na ramen sa Asakusa 800 yen lang yon. huhu na miss ko na kumain authentic Japanese ramen.

Naalala mo pa name? Local store siguro yan.
Pag mga local shops talaga, yan best for me, d masyado mahal and sometimes they care sa pagprepare ng food, but sometimes lang din d masyado ayon sa taste buds..

One time we tried a local ramen shop near our home. It was fine for me but not sa kay boyfie. ahahha maarte masyado

Hahaha you should have ramen today!

Oh yes I want to try it witt hehehe..looks yummy at ang meaty pa oh..yum yummm

yes yes! we love meat 🤣

Yammi!! This ramen looks very delicious. I tasted vegetables and meat soup many times but not Kamakura ramen. The shop started in 1896! Very old. A dim light shop in red light area seems cool.😀😀

Thanks witty for sharing unique ramen staffs of japan with us.

It is really an old ramen place but they started in another region of Japan, then expanded to all of Japan. I heard there are international stores too but I am not sure where.

Yahooo! Thank you!

Does look nice 😊
I love ramen and when I find a restaurant that has it… I always get it.
Have a great week 👋🏻

Ohhh that’s so cool! I wonder if the taste is same as the ones we have here in Japan.

I don’t know, as I never had ramen in Japan… my guess… probably not.
I will find out one day when I visit 😎

I am so excited to try ramen when I go to the city. Trending jud Ang ramen. Curiuos na gyud kog samot ba sa lami.

Hahaha I hope you will like it. It’s kinda different taste raba. 😅

I haven't tried ramen yet. I wanted to try some and I wanted it to be extra spicy. Good thing you can identify which is better.

Aaah spicy! I don’t think there’s spicy ramen in this shop. But in other ramen places, there is. Japanese aren’t really used to the spicy level we have in the Philippines. Hopefully you could at least try it there in Cebu.

I havent tasted ramen. Hoping I can try it soon.

Ohhh really? Hope you can try it someday! There are a bunch of flavors and so different from the instant ones.

ramen with gyoza and egg, such unbeatable combo! :)

I'd probably try Kamukura Ramen just for the experience.
Ako naman basta masarap kapag spicy, okay sakin 🤣

Go go go C!
I don't know if they have it spicy here though..

Foods are looking very delicious and I hope you enjoyed the food very much. Thank god that I just finished my breakfast otherwise, I might feel hungry now.

HAHAHA Caution when browsing posts in this community when you're hungry or else you will surely get hungry

おいしそう〜!Ramen looks nice but Gyoza looks good too! I miss eating Japanese Ramen very much. I miss buying tickets like that as well;)

美味しかった!
Probably the next time you're in Japan 😄

That Ramen looks delicious and for sure, you enjoyed the food as much as you enjoy your partner's company. Hehe

Actually I didn't mind my partner already when I was eating. I was too busy eating 😂

I would love to try ramen sa Japan talaga. 😍 pero mukhang malayo pa mangyari. 😁Your order looks masarap!

Ibang iba sa lasang pinoy talaga 😄

I really love ramen! hehehe nag-crave po ako tuloy. That ramen looks so tasty and delicious, sana may mahanap akong ganyan dito sa amin :)

Yeah it's good! I hope you can find one there. If not, you can make your own.. yun nga lang, instant lang.

Hello. Ramen is also my favorite food, unfortunately the place you had didn"t serve the best ramen. So lucky to have gyoza too, hope the gyoza can help the dissapointment from the ramen you felt

Even if it's not the best ramen, it works for now. It's still delicious so it's fine.

Oh that's great then :)

Yes, it was 😊
Thank you!
