It has been a while since the last time I posted about making a gatsby here on Hive and truth be told, that was the last one that I made!
A gatsby is however, a special little junk food item that should not be added into your weekly diet. Cause ya'll would die! Haha! Infrequently though, it is something that can be made as a treat.
The main reason for this of course is that it is a big loaf of bread - carbs filled with deep fried fries - more carbs and oil. It is versatile though, but I used fairly similar ingredients, it still came out totally different!
Let's see!
Alright first up, I could not find any French loaves or any other long breads. So I opted for ciabata bread instead. This was quite a heavy bread to base things on, but made the meal go further. That's R9.99 per loaf.
Last time I went for ready-cut chips which are not real potato chips. They are like, reconstructed or something... So I went for the original stuff and peeled and cut them. 8 and a half minutes to peel, 6 minutes to chop.
In the pot of hot oil they go!
On to the toppings!
We got Cheese Grillers again! Whoops, I did not even realize I did that last time. But its good... I put in bacon again as well. Obligatory Fried Onions and Garlic as well
Differences? Well besides the bread, I fried the onion as pieces and not rings.
I then added garlic and sriracha sauce. Spicy hot stuff! We keep a bottle of this stuff on the table for those of us who like it even hotter.
Here is my boy, @merenludick, helping with the braizing while I chop the other ingredients.
Here I have added the sausage and the bacon. It is ready to go to the bread!
The potato fries are drained on some kitchen towel to take away excess oil and we are ready to plate!
Butter the rolls, add a layers of chips and a layer of toppings and you are done!
And now it is movie time! We put up Netflix and enjoy our massive gatsbys. Since we just finished watching the new kids' version of He Man and the Masters of the Universe - 2 Seasons, we turned to She-Ra as the next family series that we are watching together.
Until next time! Cheers!
nice to see your son helping in the kitchen. I might try to make this dish myself soon
Enjoy! If you do, take pictures and make your own posts in the Foodies Community!
