Teacher's duty is not just a job or a work, it's a passion
Have you ever wondered how and what teachers felt in everyday struggles of their lives? Have you ever wondered if their lives have changed as they're changing other people lives and futureas well? Well, do you also think how brave and passionate teacher are?
It's been a week that the weather wasn't good. The weather changes in a snap like it's hot in the morning then suddenly rains and vice versa. It's the season of fever and colds nowadays. And just this morning, the classes were suspended as the rains pour so hard that some of the place in our town were flooded especially those in low areas. But before we received the messaged of the said memo, I and my wife were already at school. Before we received the message from the principal that the class will be suspended, some of the students were already in their classrooms and they need to adviced to go home and be safe. But also, the principal told us to stay at school to prepare the things we need to be done and use for the next week. Today was supposedly the quarterly performance of the special program section but was rescheduled because of thw heavy rain. Around 9:30 am, we had received a memo from the municipality that there will be suspension of work today. And since I and my wife were already at school, we decided to stay until the rain will calm down a little because it pours hard outside.
We were wet already as we traveled under the heavy rain because my wife was afraid to be late in reporting to school. I told here that we will wait for the memo of the municipal but she said that it's better to be at school while waiting the memo so that we won't late. And just the time we arrived at school the principal messaged for a class suspension and still we need to report. And after an hour, the municipal posted a memo of suspension. We then waited for the rain to calm down and while doing that we were busy with paperworks especially my wife who was so serious in front of her laptop. Even she's sick, she's so passionate with her job. I am just worried because I noticed her being stress and tired yet she don't want to have a short break. She was having a fever, cold and cough that's why I told her that we should stay home while waiting the memo but then again she will always be the one needs to follow coz I don't like her to get mad at me especially that she's eager to finish the work. So, while she's busy with computing the grades, I take time to do mine also and started sorting my papers especially the student's outputs.
Since the day that I had started teaching, I always asked myself if it's really for me. I mean, there were time that I neglected my health just to do my job as a teacher. Every time I do that, I can't stop myself to ask if all I am doing is worth it. Now that I and my wife were in a one work environment, I can't stop myself to worry about her though I've been through just like her before. There were lots of changes in my life that had happened and some things that I embraced and accepted that it needs to be done and I don't have something to complain. And one of this is to do my job even if not feeling well and the weather is bad. Because there is something in me thay guilts me if I do some abscences even if there's an important reasons.
But now, seeing my wife sick while doing her job, all I can say is health must be the first priority that we should think of. Because our body is one only. No extra body to shift that's why we should take care of ourselves. Glad that my wife decided to go home because she said she's already chilling and I hurriedly took away our things and gave her her things. I told her this and that and she just nod, I know why she's not in the mood to be annoyed because she's not feeling well. Even if it's raining outside, we traveled home and noticed that the water arised already near our house. I told her to changed her clothes and I went to the kitchen. She's lying in bed while our son was sleeping in his cradle. We had someone with us who's taking care with our son, she's doing the laundry and she said that I should cook someone hot for my wife so I asked her if what's better food for my wife. She said pourage or sopas, so I decided to buy ingredients for sopas and cooked it for her.
When she woke up, I let her eat her food same with our son as well. After eating she said she'll continue to do her paperworks but i told her to just rest because things can wait. Glad that she listened to me and didn't argue. She just stayed in our room the whole day after we arrived from school around 12:00 noon.
During bad weather, sometimes teacher are not given a chance to stay home. We need to go to school in order for us to see to it that the papers and other stuff are safe. I even felt pity to one of the staff in the school today who was pregnant yet she went to school. We told her to go home but she said that no one will fetch her as her husband was already in his work. You see, because of our job, we sometimes need to neglect things even if sometimes it's something important. We need to be passionate with our job and always remember what we have took during the auth. But hopefully, everyone should know that we are all human and we're not robot. We should prioritize our health and safety.

Thinking back on my school years, I can't seem to remember any of my teachers ever being sick and absent due to illness or some other personal reason. It's as if these people really were some kind of super people who don't get sick from anything and don't have any suffering. I never realized that until I read your post 🤔
Me too. Not until I was already one of them. Never thought we need to be this kind of person just to serve as what we've taken an auth.
That's why I salute my teachers when I was still young for they mold me of what I am today not knowing that they had struggle a lot. I've seen the reality of being a teacher now.
