Living in a highly technological world really helped us during the pandemic. We use Google Classroom and Google Meet at our school as well and it made things quite a lot easier. All of our students already had Google Chromebooks so they already knew how to use Google Classroom. The biggest challenge was to teach them Google Meet etiquette. To try and get them to have their camera on and not talk to each other during the call. Not mess around with sounds and noises that would disturb the others.
I really think the whole distant teaching thing was a little bit of an hit or miss for us. The motivated kids didn't really suffer much but those who have trouble concentrating and structuring their work suffered the most. Some students need that someone in the same room to learn properly. At least it was like that for us in junior high where we have kids ranging from 13-16 years old.
It's awesome that you found your way to the Teachers Lounge! This was an interesting read about how your school handled things during the pandemic. Thanks for sharing!
