This blog series is a regular newsletter for people interested in crypto news from Ireland as well as upcoming local events where you will be welcome to come and learn about Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies.
Recently I am having more and more conversations with family and friends, Crypto is hitting the news very often.
Let me know your thoughts on this newsletter, what you would like to see and if anyone would like to be a contributor please reach out. I would love #hive to be the go to place for people entering the Crypto Space in #Ireland.
What is happening on the Irish Blockchain scene?
This week I will bring you an update from two Meetups I attended, and some upcoming meetups.
UC-Dao
This week the first community call of a group called UC - Dao was held on Discord.
It was an interesting call from a group based in Dublin that are looking to form a decentralised DAO for Crypto / Blockchain / Metaverse / Web 3.
The aim appears to promote and nurture an Irish community. There were some interesting people on this call with ranges of experience and knowledge. I will be interested to see where this community goes, the plan is to have guest speakers and regular calls.
This is the type of group where I think you will always hear about interesting projects from some very knowledgeable and connected people. Something I heard about on this call for the first time was Friends with Benefits
You can find a link to the Discord here UC DAO to get information on upcoming events. Their next event is on the 26th of January and I expect it will be a weekly meetup on their discord.
The Crypto Lounge - A Crypto Party for All
The meetup group Global Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and Trading Group is run by @paulag from Hive.
It has quite a different angle being very focused on Crypto Currency Trading. This was my first time attending this group also. There was lively chat from a group of traders as well as a segment from a PHD student in Helsinki. There was also interesting insights into trading and how Fear and Greed influence decision making and how to deal with it. They also discussed exit strategies. Very interesting talk.
Akasha World Conversation 2
Akasha World had a meeting (virtually) yesterday also. I am mentioning this meetup as Akasha have a Hub in Dublin so may be of interest to the Irish Community, and certainly is of interest to Hive.
Akasha are building a decentralised Social Network. There are many Blockchain projects that when I hear about some of the challenges they face I often think to myself, these are issues Hive has solved already. I often think there is a lot that newer crypto projects can learn from veterans like Hive but for some reason the all go off on their own.
I got my eyes opened at the meetup this week as there is actually so much more to the Crypto Journey than that. Hive can probably learn a lot from other communities. There is rich history going back to a platform called communitree in the 70s, which I didnt know about. Interestingly the death of communitree was when it was released to teenagers. Spam brought down the system.
This Akasha community is interesting to follow, I feel they have quite a bit to go, it still seems like early days but they do seem to be learing from the past and other projects (including Web 2) I will continue to contribute to Akasha and if there are synergies with Hive I will definitely draw peoples attention to it.
