Es ist schon eine ganze Weile her, dass ich das letzte Mal über meine Fortschritte beim Deutschlernen berichtet habe. Das liegt daran, dass der Lernprozess bis letzte Woche reibungslos verlaufen ist.
Für diejenigen, die es nicht wissen: Ich bin ein englischsprachiger Mensch, der sich entschlossen hat, Deutsch als zweite Sprache zu lernen, inmitten der Milliarden anderer Sprachen, die es gibt. Ich habe diesen Prozess Anfang letzten Jahres mit der Duolingo-App begonnen und bin noch immer dabei.
Die letzte Woche war jedoch sehr arbeitsreich für mich (eine der arbeitsreichsten, die ich seit langem hatte). Daher war ich ein wenig aus dem Gleichgewicht und habe zwei Tage hintereinander vergessen zu üben. Als ich am dritten Tag zurückkam, erhielt ich eine Nachricht von Duo, dass ich meine 510 Tage Lernzeit verloren hatte. Das war eine wirklich herzzerreißende Nachricht, und in diesem Moment verlor ich meine Motivation zu lernen. "Was ist das Wesentliche am Lernen ohne eine Serie?" dachte ich bei mir.
Daraufhin vernachlässigte ich die App ein paar Tage lang, aber die App erinnerte mich immer wieder daran, zu üben. Ich musste meine Entscheidung noch einmal überdenken. Schließlich kam ich zu dem Schluss: "Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ich Deutsch lernen will, und der Streifen ist nur ein zusätzlicher Nutzen. Letzten Endes geht es mir darum, die Sprache zu lernen und nicht um das Sammeln von
Streifen."
Mit dieser Schlussfolgerung habe ich beschlossen, heute wieder mit dem Deutschunterricht zu beginnen. Es mag sich nicht so anfühlen, als hätte ich ein paar Stunden verpasst, aber jetzt, wo ich das Projekt, das mich sehr beschäftigt hat, abgeschlossen habe, kann ich wieder Deutsch lernen, denn ich möchte immer noch so weit kommen, dass ich fließend Deutsch sprechen und schreiben kann.
Ein kleines (oder vielleicht auch großes) Problem, das ich noch mit der Sprache habe, ist der Akzent. Ich bin jemand, der Akzente leicht nachahmen kann, wenn ich sie mehrmals höre, aber ich kann den deutschen Akzent immer noch nicht richtig nachahmen. Ich fange vielleicht gut an, aber ich entgleite immer wieder, so dass ich manchmal wie ein kaputtes Instrument klinge 😄.
Ich habe diese Sorge mit einigen Freunden geteilt und die meisten von ihnen sagen, dass ich den Akzent richtig hinbekommen werde, wenn ich irgendwann in ein deutschsprachiges Land gehe und unter den Einheimischen lebe. Was denken Sie, wie wahr das ist?

It has been quite a while since I last shared my German language learning progress. This is because the learning process had been going smoothly up until last week.
For those who do not know, I am an English speaking individual who decided to take up Deutsch as my second language amidst the billions of other languages available. I began this process early last year using the Duolingo app and I'm currently still on it.
However, last week was a very busy one for me (one of the busiest I've had in a long time). As such, I was a little off balance and forgot to practise for two days in a row. On the third day, I returned to a message from Duo stating that I had lost my 510 days learning streak. This was a really heartbreaking message and in that instant, I lost my motivation to learn. “What is the essence of learning without a streak?” I thought to myself.
This made me neglect the app for a few days but the app kept sending reminders to practise. I had to reanalyze my decision. Eventually, I concluded that “I am learning Deutsch because I want to learn Deutsch and the streak is only an additional benefit. At the end of the day, my priority is to learn the language and not earn streaks.”
With this conclusion , I decided to return to my Deutsch lessons today. It may not feel the same way as I have missed out on a few lessons but now that I have concluded the project that made me extremely busy, I can return to learning Deutsch as I still aim to reach a position where I can speak and write Deutsch very fluently.
One little (or maybe major) problem I still have with the language is the accent. I am one to easily emulate accents when I hear it a number of times but I still can't emulate the Deutsch accent properly. I may start off on a good note but I always derail along the line, which makes me sound like a broken instrument sometimes 😄.
I shared this concern with a few friends and the majority of them always say that I would get the accent right when I eventually go to a Deutsch speaking country and live amongst the locals. How true do you think this is?

I really want to support people learning the German language. Far to few people outside of the DACH Region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) know how to speak it and those who claim to speak often butcher the language to an unrecognisable mess...
Anways I want to offer some high-level corrections in your German text if you dont mind :)
"Daher war ich ein wenig aus dem Gleichgewicht". We would say "Ich war daneben" bzw. "Daher war ich ein wenig daneben"
"Letzten Endes geht es mir darum, die Sprache zu lernen und nicht um das Sammeln von
Streifen." Im not sure what you mean by "Sammeln von Streifen", maybe "Abzeichen sammeln"?
" Was denken Sie, wie wahr das ist?" we would say "Was denken Sie, stimmt das?"
Hope that helps! And dont worry about the pronounciation/accent, most people get that only after years of training/living here and even then it can be really tough for them.

Hallo @wongi finde ich toll, dass du so fleißig übst und unsere Sprache lernen willst.
Das mit dem Akzent ist ohnehin so eine Sache in der deutschen Sprache ..
Natürlich gibt es etwas, das wir im allgemeinen als "hoch deutsch" bezeichnen. Aber hier in Österreich klingt dies zum Beispiel total fremd und ungewohnt.
Wenn du jetzt irgendwo im Norden Deutschlands die Sprache lernst und dann in den Süden, nach Bayern oder Österreich fährst, dann würdest du zu Anfang erst mal gar nichts verstehen, so unterschiedlich ist die Aussprache 😅
Viel Erfolg weiterhin und ja es lohnt sich immer fremde Sprachen zu lernen
