RE: Rant Or Review? Tyler Perry's Divorce In The Black (2024)

in CineTV21 days ago

That is dreadful news. It seems toxic masculinity is in these days. Thank you for telling me to skip this. I enjoyed some vintage Tyler Perry. I don't think I've seen any of the recent films you refer to. I'm an old feminist, from the Betty Friedan/Gloria Steinem school of feminism. I fought the fight I don't know how many times, for better employment, for the simple contract rights, such as negotiating one without my husband. So many milestones on the path to today. And now I see this toxic masculinity as a backlash.

Shame on you, Tyler Perry.

I agree Perry's earlier films resonated with many, including myself. His recent releases and their negative themes are upsetting, really. From another view, I understand he's portraying reality but we've seen enough of them and would rather support progressive films.

I can't imagine all you went through in advocating your stand, but compared to now, it's obvious we have more work to do in creating a humane society that embraces equality and respect. Thanks so much for sharing your journey as a feminist. I appreciate your visit and support.
