"Back in action" is a very interesting and American action filled movie directed by seth Gordon. Though it's new movie released in 2025, it's numerous witty, actions, romantic and humorous feature have made it captivating to everyone, especially in my household. It centres around two bossom friends turned lovers that work for an organization as spies against terrorists and warlords. Of course as their job implies, they are on assignment to retrieve an important device (the key) from a terrorist named Gor. Accessing Gor is like entering a lion's den, but Emily and Matt are very intelligent and planned to carry out the operation at his house on his kid's birthday, pretending as guests. The operation was hot but successful. the key was retrieved owing to some brilliant tactics deployed at the scene.

Emily and Matt quickly got on plane with the key, thinking the battle is over, Emily breaks the news that she's pregnant for Matt and while they intend to pop champagne, their enemies strike to retaliate. It was a serious tussle till the plane crashes but the two lovers escaped and decided to retire from their job to start a new life as family somewhere else. That is just the biggest sacrifice I must say, leaving what they are best at to start and raise two brilliant children; Alice (a teenager) and Leo, who had no idea of their parents' identity and how much sacrifice they have made for them.

Just like a hen protects its chicken, Emily tries to protect and monitors her children, but like many teenagers want freedom, Alice sees her mother as being overprotective. She becomes unfriendly towards her mother and lies to attend club party which however exposes and implicattes their parents that have been living a quiet life for about 15 years. Fresh attack is now launched against them to retrieve the key they believe can still be with them. On the long run, the children are kidnapped and the couple swiftly switch 'back to action' to rescue their children after so many years they have rested from what they are known for.

Verdicts

The film greatly encapsulates what 'parenthood' represents. That is, it shows a great level of love, care and sacrifice which are demonstrated by Emily and her husband Matt towards their children, even when their teenage child, Alice was pushing them away.
The movie also successfully blends actions with romance, which serve as a relief after watching some fierce scenes of combat. This is mostly evident after an intense fight to retrieve the key from Gor. Emily and Matt try to relax on the plane, look at each other in the eyes, while Emily breaks the news of her pregnancy. They become so happy and ready to pop champagne.

Criticisms.

Although back in action is a good movie, there are certains things that shouldn't be encouraged but portrayed in the movie such as fake identity or falsehood in general. This is evident in the parents relationship with their children. They never reveal their identity to their children, even when the children observe that their parents are exceptional and become confused that there must be something unknown about their parents. They didn't tell their children they were once trained spies who left their job to start a new life. Being truthful may have helped the children know and understand them well. They will have freely trained their children for unforseen occurrence that later befall them
Matt did not also inform his wife that the key was in his custody till 15 years later when attack was launched against them in order to retrieve the key from them. Emily is so surprised to know that after 15 years and to worsen the situation. Matt kept the key in Emily's family compound back in England, while his wife, Emily isn't even aware.

The introduction of new character, Emily's father at end of the movie, put unanswered question on every watcher's mind. Emily and Matt conversation with Baron in the car at the last scene centres on recruiting one of the couple's family members into the organization they left, while Emily suggests her mother, Baron rejects but says he will prefer Emily's father, who is unknown throughout the movie, and is also surprising to Matt, Emily 's husband because he has no idea that Emily has a father.

Thanks for reading.

I've seen reviews on this movie but I still haven't watched it since it's release. I enjoy watch Cameron Diaz and it's sad to this movie fell short of your expectations. Although, you say this film wasn't so good, I still think I'd watch it. That's because I love Cameron Diaz a lott
