This film has left me with mixed feelings. There are some things that I liked a lot and I enjoyed them like a little kid, but there are other things that made me arch my eyebrow and wonder how they could have approved that idea.
Among the good things are the film's successful visuals, which mix both computer effects and real sets. Overall the film is very polished and you can tell they put a lot of effort into recreating the Minecraft setting.
References abound throughout the film, from references to the game itself (the game's sound effects, the water bucket that cushions the fall) to external references such as old consoles and the like.
Steve (Black) and The Garbage Man (Momoa) are the best characters in the film because they are funny and have a decent backstory.

Henry played by Sebastian Eugene is convincing considering how young he is, but unfortunately the female characters are largely wasted.
Natalie has the occasional decent moment, but overall they feel like they're stuck in the background, there are many parts where I forgot about them due to their lack of impact.
The story itself is anything but original, it takes all the tropes and clichés of current cinema to form this film about creativity. Literally if you've seen all the trailers (as I have), you're not going to find hardly any surprises beyond the odd surprise or two.
The message about creativity is decent, I mean, it's not great, but it's well integrated into the story and it's good for the little ones, but they should have gone deeper. And the tone is not entirely convincing.
It wants to be a family film, but many times there is double entendre humour that doesn't fit the tone of the film.
The villains are not the best villains, but they are good and their motivations are appropriate to the tone of the film.
I laughed with the references to the games and I had a good time with my friends, but apart from being enjoyable for fans like me, it's a pretty fair film.
I do appreciate the fact that they've been able to make a film about Minecraft and that it's not a disaster, but I think that in other hands, the film could have been much better.
I see that Jason is acting quite a number of movies that raise the eyebrows. However, I am just seeing this one. I like good comedy, so I may just check it out.
It is entertaining and somewhat unusual, it fulfills its purpose.
This must be a comedy movie. Movies that make one raise their eyebrow can sometimes be funny especially when you see how the characters perform, some do not do well though but at least having a good laugh is a good one.
It has its dose of humor and very funny moments.
The initial part of this movie where you said you were wondering how they approved such things for such a movie got me curious. Mm, let’s see how it goes. Lovely review by the way.
I hope you see it and like it
