The film tells the story of a girl who is told by doctors that she is in the final stages of a terminal illness.

Her response was, on the one hand, to experience things she never had time to experience and, on the other hand, to try to make things easier for her family while she was away.

Coisette manages to introduce small touches of humour and poetry that contrast with really bad supporting characters, dialogue that doesn't even match the literary ambitions and a dull aesthetic that recalls the worst of feminist postcardism.

Its arrogant pretentiousness can be irritating, but it also contains moments of genuine emotion. This is not obligatory, but it is watchable.

Don't judge. We are not qualified to judge others. I think few of the writers here have ever been in a situation where they have only a month to live and a million things they want to do but haven't yet done.

In my opinion, there are two problems that detract from the narrative quality in certain scenes. The first is the tendency to exaggeration and melodrama, and the second is the presence of bombastic dialogue and lapidary phrases (an example of this is the ‘There's no such thing as normal people, Mum’ that they slip in during the first few minutes).

Of course, how much of this is forgivable? When working with a story like the one in ‘My Life Without Me’, and moreover from a point of view such as the one proposed by the play, it is all too easy to overstep a limit of this kind.

And really, in this case it doesn't go to an annoying extreme, but it does give the narrative a certain unevenness, combining very successful scenes (for example, the one in the car with the tacky ‘Senzafine’ in the background, or any of the family scenes) with others in which the characters and script don't go well together (the dialogue about the cancer in the hospital).

However, although the film has its flaws, Isabel Coixet, director and screenwriter, who has adapted the story by Nanci Kincaid, manages to give it a unique atmosphere, which I find very attractive. I enter Ann's life without any difficulty, I understand what she feels and to a certain extent everything she does.
