Section 31 is born as a spin-off from Star Trek: Discovery, but it is more than that in that it adds new narrative to an artifact that existed long before:
This organisation had been begging for its own story to expand on for quite some time, and this film attempts to do so through a sort of wacky trekkie thriller about spies, misfits and mercenaries who challenge Starfleet's ideals, mixing intrigue, action, humour and moral dilemmas.
From the first second of the intro, there are already details that warn us that this is a different Star Trek film, it's something else.
The film presents us with a motley crew of characters, all with a little bit of a geeky touch that gives them that special touch.

Each one plays his or her role with more or less grace, but together they form a rather roguish ensemble that fulfils its mission.
Michelle Yeoh literally eats up the film: a Philippa Georgiou, between her present and her past, full of charisma, ambiguity and strength, who keeps you interested even in the slower moments, of which there are not many.
Georgiou delivers moral dilemmas and blows (as well as physical ones) with an overwhelming presence. Without a doubt, she remains the absolute empress in both universes.
Among the rest of the cast, Kacey Rohl plays a young Rachel Garrett, the future captain of the USS Enterprise-C. Her performance is a delight, with a strong, lithe and confident performance. Her performance is a delight, with enough depth and charisma to make her grow and give some depth to the character.
Also outstanding is Humberly Gonzalez as Melle, a captivating, very ‘magnetic’ Deltan agent. Her Deltan origin is no coincidence: it is a very clear nod to Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979).
Along with Garrett and Melle, Quasi is another one who has won my heart. This completely bonkers chamaloid gives us some great moments, as well as yet another reference, in this case to Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Sam Richardson does a great job of acting, and he does a great job in almost all of his scenes.
Now this is a movie i wont miss and the star is one of my favorite actress
It is very interesting
Yes it will
Woah!!! After reading your review, I decided to check the trailer and I must say I love the cinematography already. I’m watching this anytime get less busy!
It is sure to please and surprise you
I've seen this one showing up on some of the torrent sites in the past weeks but the rather poor reviews (3.8/10 on IMDB) and the fact that I'm not caught up at all with Star Trek even though I do tend to like it when I get into it made me skip. So much content these days but so little time to watch it all.
It's a matter of taste, perhaps as it departs a little from the saga it is not appreciated by some.
