Remember the Titans....Cinetv contest #127.

As a little girl, I could recall some of the times there was a major game happening. My dad would come home early from work on the said day of the game and we would both sit in front of a monochrome television set to watch the game.

My dad did not take me to the football stadium to watch the match live because he was afraid I would get injured. So we settled with watching the match at home in front of a tv set. As an adult, I took the liberty to go watch a live match between my country and an opponent. It was a nations cup match. I still remember the rush of adrenaline through my veins and the way I screamed happily when a shot at the opponents goal post was successful. Believe me, being there at a major game while it was been played has a delicious sensation and feel when compared to watching at home 😜

Remember the titans for me. This was a movie released in the year 2000 yet it still has its unique touch anytime I watch it. The movie starrs actors Denzel Washington as Coach Boone and Will Patton as Coach Yoast. These two were initially at loggerheads but love for the game brought them together and made them good friends in the end.For this week's #cinetv contest, no other movie beats

This movie reflected more than just a big game event. It reflected the need for equality and fairness irrespective of skin colour and origins. The love for the game is powerful to unite any culture and creed.

Movie Synopsis

Coach Boone had just been assigned as head coach to thetitans, a football team in T.C Williams High School in Virginia. A decision which didn't sit well with the current white coach,Bill Yoast. At first, the white students were acting troublesome but Coach Boone was able to handle each and everyone of them. Through his strict but helpful regiment added with a dose of motivational speeches, he was able to get both white and black players to his side.

Coach Boone also successfully led the team to winning not only the regionals but the championships as well. This earned him his much deserved respect especially when the school board bribed the referee to play dirty.

Two defence captains *Gerry and Julius, each representing both sides of the team and were also at loggerheads with theemselves finally made peace and became bestfriends. "What happened to the corrupt board members and the rest of the team memebers later?" That is for you to find out by watching the movie 😁. Trust me, it never gets old.

*My review

I think Denzel was a perfect choice for the character of Coach Boone. His strict yet flexible demeanor made him to be both a coach and a friend to the team. I should also commend Coach Yoast who chose to look at the bigger picture rather than a moment of fame.

The camaraderie between team mates was fun to watch especially in the locker room scenes. Lest I forget, the adrenaline rush that pumped in me while watching the games between the titans and their opponents was thrilling to me.

All the body smashing and head butting in this game was a shocker, no matter how many times I watch this movie. But asides the shock of chasing, hitting and bumping into each other, the movie was cool.

Ten years later in the storyline, a group of former coaches and players alike come to Gerry's grave to honour him. He had died in a car accident after the titans won the championship. I learnt that once a player, always a player" and that no matter what the love for the game is always the goal.

I rate this movie a cool 7.5/10 because of its relatable storyline and the loyalty to a good cause.
