For a while now I have been of the opinion that things happen because they were meant to happen and that whatever the outcome of our decision, it is all a needed experience for self improvement, growth and self mastering.
While sometimes we might feel ohh, our life would have been better if we got a do over, we'd soon realise that a do over messes up the entire time structure and we just might not even be ready for the new outcome. And that's exactly the message in this movie 17 Again. Question is, if we all really get a second chance at life for a do over would we have done anything differently?
Personally, I have always daydream about going back in time to correct one or two things that I view as mistakes on my path. But while in that daydream, I am also quick to catch myself and come back to reality.
Basically, I have seen that altering one past event from time will cause a different future entirely. One which I might not even be interested in. You see, these experiences and mistakes that I think I might have made are all my actions which have shaped me to be a better person and like I always say to myself, no regrets just lessons.
Watching this movie and seeing my thoughts come to life really hits differently. At least, it's consoling to know that I'm not imagining things and it's not all in my head.
I'd rate the movie 8/10 because its an interesting watch plus, it's a perfect blend of comedy and romance.
So let's dive into a quick summary of the movie, 17 again.
The Main character Mike O’Donnell who has been filled with regrets over his life's choice and has blamed everyone else but himself, soon got what he wished for; A chance to be 17 again.
You might be wondering, what's so special about the age 17? Well, that's the Age that Mike O'Donnell thought he had missed a chance at a better life. 17 was the age that Mike chose his pregnant girlfriend over a basketball scholarship. While it was a decision he made and was initially excited about, he soon realised that the burden of parenting and the responsibilities that came with adulthood was a bit of a financial burden.
Mike couldn't help but feel like life would have been much easier for him financially if he had become a superstar basketball player.
As time progressed, Mike never missed out on the opportunity of taking out his frustrations on his wife and falling short of his fatherly duties. Actions he soon came to regret when his wife filed for a divorce. It was at that moment Mike came at a crossroads and got a second chance to live the life he had desperately wanted. And while he thought being 17 again would make him happy, he soon realised what a terrible father he had been, being back in high school with his children.
Not just that but also, befriending his son and gaining access into his home as a third party, Mike saw first hand how frustrated his wife has been putting up with his excess over the years.
So what do you think it would be for Mike? Take the advantage of his second chance and live his superstar dream or do right by his family?
Again, as Mike struggles, his best friend who helped him through the whole ordeal posing as his father, soon finds love in Mike's highschool Principal and while he tried to woo her, he soon realised that they had more in common than he would ever dream of.
Basically, the movie is centered on two best friends being faced with life; One with an opportunity to relive his youth while the other, an opportunity to build companionship.
