So, as promised last week, we will be bringing to you a lot of GIF-related movies in honour of our newest token, GIFU. GIFs are one thing we use more often than not in texts and virtual conversations, and a lot of these ones are widely known and more than that, gotten from our favourite movies or movies that were at the very least, incredibly popular in their time. So, today, we’re bringing to you some of the movies that have the most popular GIFs, that you may or may not be aware of their origin.
Mean Girls (2004)
I’m not sure if there’s anyone from the last three generations. I’m talking Gen Z, Millennials and Boomers who haven’t seen this film. I remember watching this movie for the first time in 2010 or 11, I think, and thinking it was the best thing since sliced bread. I was just open to the American high school system via Hollywood and I wondered if it was always this exciting and dramatic, or Hollywood was just exaggerating. Fast forward to several years later, and we’re still enjoying a lot of GIFs from that epic movie. There are a lot, but here’s a few of the really popular bunch. The array of pink in here is enough to blind your eyes for the next week, or so. Lol.
The Lion King (1994)
I mean, does this need to be reviewed too much. There’s always a phrase that comes to our minds, the moment we hear, The Lion King. I don’t think there are up to five Disney productions in its entirety, that comes close too The Lion King. The animated one, of course. If I could get $10 for every time I’ve watched this movie, and the other one after it, I should be right up there with Jeff Bezos, lol. This animated movie appeals to everyone: old, young, teens, hot-headed delinquents, you name it. And the, it brings with it an array of the most delightful GIFs that would definitely fill you with nostalgia each time you see it.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
I’d heard far too many positive reviews about this film and I wondered if it was all hype, till I saw the cast and then saw the movie itself. A cinematic masterpiece filled with dark humour, intrigue, and dialogue so sharp and witty, the entire experience becomes unforgettable. Watching this piece that showcased the dark, crime-infested parts of Los Angeles with an episodic plot to match, was pure chef’s kiss. And it’s only when I saw a few parts that I recognized the truly popular GIFs that came out of it. Pulp Fiction is a classic like no other, and I’m glad that research brought me in contact with this beauty.
The Princess Bride (1987)
Now this, I haven’t fully seen, but I’ve seen a lot of clips about it and I recognized it from the GIFs associated with it which are so popular. Watching a few parts from the movie and I see why it is deemed iconic by the masses. “As You Wish,” being one of the most popular phrases the film has and which also made it to being one of the most popular GIFs of its time. A few of these may be familiar, but for those who have watched this cinematic beauty, you will be able to relate to all the others.
So, there you have it! There are a few more popular GIFs from recent movies or at least from 2000s that I’ll be bringing to you all subsequently, but I hope this struck a nostalgic chord in you. Enjoy and don't forget to join the $GIFU tribe!
