Ad Vitam

in CineTVyesterday

I can say that Ad Vitam, a movie about a complex state conspiracy, is one of the productions that successfully combines action and suspense elements and manages to keep its audience on the screen with its fast pace. The fact that Netflix is behind it and that they have recently signed successful action movies contributes to the image of the producer, while it would be rather to say that it breaks the prejudices on the audience.

Centered around Franck Lazareff (played by Guillaume Canet), a member of the GIGN (French Elite Intervention Team) who is specially trained and used in special operations, the story draws attention to the importance of friendship and being a family, while reminding us once again that the past shapes the future.

The constant use of the past in such productions and the necessity of overcoming difficulties from the past to shape the future have become quite familiar. Nevertheless, even though it is seen as a cliché story in action movies, it would be appropriate to say that a story embellished with successful action scenes has an audience and as a member of that audience; even though I found the story cliché, I found the movie successful due to the processing and the use of action in its place and dose.

Guillaume Canet, who is one of the screenwriters of the movie and who manages to identify the character of Franck Lazareff with the story of the movie, gives a perfect performance. What I liked the most about the movie and the performances of the actors was that the action scenes were used in the right dose and with the story. Although I can say that exaggerated action scenes also suit this kind of productions.

The plot of the movie revolves around the kidnapping of the pregnant wife of Franck Lazareff, who was expelled from GIGN, by a mysterious group of armed men. The character's attempts to rescue his fated wife with the support of his fated friends stand out as the factor that ensures the fluidity of the story and the emergence of action scenes.

What can be criticized about the movie is that the emotional depth of the story was not captured at any moment. You realize this in the scenes where the pace slows down and family is emphasized, and in those moments, the seemingly small detail stands out too much. Another was that the tension lagged behind the pace of the action. Especially in the moments of kidnapping and rescue, you look for tension but you can't find it.

To summarize, the story is clichéd, but the execution is good and the substitution of action scenes adds value to the movie. If some mystery, suspense and emotional depth had been added to the story and Guillaume Canet's outstanding performance, the movie could have been leveled up. It feels as if something was done in a hurry and that haste led to gaps.

With its strong cast and gripping action scenes, I recommend you to watch Ad Vitam. There are some inconsistencies, maybe due to the script, maybe due to the director, but this doesn't spoil the watchability of the movie too much. The pace of the movie and the excitement it creates offer a pleasant viewing experience. In short, I can say that there are aspects to criticize but there are more positive aspects.

Thank you for being here and reading. Take care and until we meet again, goodbye!

Ad Vitam sounds like an exciting movie with a mix of action and suspense. I like how you pointed out both the strengths and weaknesses of the film. Even though the story might feel familiar, good execution and well-placed action scenes can still make it enjoyable. It’s great to see Guillaume Canet delivering a strong performance, and the theme of friendship and family adds depth. I do wish they had focused more on emotional moments and built up the tension better. Still, it seems like a fun watch for action lovers. Thanks for the review, and keep sharing your thoughts! @cute-catus

It's definitely a production that action lovers will like. Thanks for your thoughts.
