Inglorious Basterds (2009) is way better than I remember!

Likely spoilers.

I've always liked this movie, no doubt about it. If someone were to ask me if 'Inglorious Basterds' is a good one, I'd certainly say yes. But admittedly I don't know if I liked it as much as my friends for example.

I was a teenager when I first saw this and like I said, I definitely enjoyed it. But my friends on the other hand seemed to absolutely love it! This was on repeat over and over for a few months for sure. I remember those times fondly. I recall the film having enjoyable entertaining parts, but my love for it was not at my friends' level. At the time, I found the film slow in moments, and reading a lot of the film's subtitles seemed to be rather odd at the time. Also, I had never really watched many Tarantino movies, and he definitely brings his own style to his movies. A style that was pretty foreign to me. In addition, my knowledge of history was just not there to really appreciate the context of what was going on if that makes sense.

Watching it many years later, was a much better experience for me! My history knowledge, Tarantino knowledge and my overall improved knowledge/awareness allowed me to much more easily understand this film this time around.

I found 'Inglorious Basterds' to be such a wild ride. A unique blend of grit, comedy, action and just madness. Every single significant role in this film is instantly iconic, the acting is so great by pretty much everyone involved and the brand of comedy is sharp and 'intelligent' but intelligent in not a corny way. Like, a genuinely refreshing, authentic sort of self aware intelligence. I don't know, makes sense to me. That's my main take away from the film, is it's ability to be genuinely silly and genuinely sinister. It executes this contrast in an effortless way.

Christopher Waltz and Brad Pitt put on A+ performances. Hans Landa played by Waltz, was such a creepy, eerie and intelligent but sadistic lunatic. Really unlike any bad guy I have seen before.

Lt. Aldo Raine on the other hand was a ruthless and, again, intelligent and utterly genuinely hilarious character. I've only seen a handful of Pitt's roles and he really impressed me. I didn't know he had an ability to be that dang funny, seriously. I can't say I've seen many comedies recently but I've certainly watched plenty in my life and I enjoy a lot of stand-up comedy etc. Perhaps it was because this movie is not a pure comedy so his funny parts stood out more sharply but this Aldo Raine guy had me DYING.

Raine entering the bar after that gun fight, and him trying to speak Italian was just insanely funny. Like, I cannot remember the last time I laughed that hard in general.

10/10 scene, too funny!

Pitt's comedic timing was good, most decent actors seem to be able to pull that off in comedies, but he also brought a natural silly, just goofy energy that worked super well. His character, and his crew of course, also being unapologetically 'Merican among the Europeans was just endlessly hilarious. There were plenty of funny moments throughout the film as a whole but, these particular aspects I found memorable.

What a treat 'Inglorious Basterds' was. This movie was long and so many scenes and aspects of the film were excellent!

Overall I'll give 'Inglorious Basterds' a 9.15/10

It's been a long time since I last saw this movie. I used to watch it sometimes when I was younger. I still remember several scenes, but among them all there is the one with "The Batter" or the one with the Nazi colonel visiting the house at the beginning of the film. Those scenes are fantastic on their own and they say a lot about both the actors in it and the director himself; Tarantino is a cinematic genius, without a doubt.

Good review.

Yes this was so good! Yes I know who you're talking about that character was awesome! Yes Tarantino is surely top notch 100 percent no question!

It's my least favorite Tarantino film... But, being honest, maybe I need to give it another chance

Not a bad idea maybe you'll like it a bit better after another watch as I did! if I'm being honest I should probably see some more Tarantino movies myself haha

I will like to watch this movie
