Right, so this movie is an absolute puzzle. I thought 'Inception' was mind-blowing or complex, but lately I am finding out that there's kind of a whole world full of movies that boggle the mind. I thought these were rare but I keep finding more and more and I'm loving it.
'Primer' is really top notch and what's impressive is the movie didn't need a massive budget. The movie just relied on an awesome story and some awesome acting.
I think I only understand about sixty percent of this movie? I'd be shocked if someone claimed they understood this one hundred percent.
As much as 'Primer' is complex it's fairly straightforward in a sense. They accidentally discover time travel and then well, they deal with the challenges that come with that. They make some money, they deal with paradoxes and they deal with betrayal.
But 'Primer' feels very realistic and the tone is sort of urgent if that makes sense. The science and math behind everything feels legit even though I couldn't tell you if it's all plausible in a sci-fi sense HA.
What's cool about 'Primer' is I couldn't even fully say it's in a traditional genre I guess. This movie is fully and totally a 'time travel' film, declared by me LOL. Sure it's dramatic, thrilling, and mysterious. But the whole movie is centered around this machine and the results of it. As much as the movie is thought provoking with a lot of moving parts, its soley focused on time travel which is so cool. If 'time travel movie' were somehow in a dictionary, 'Primer' would have to be used as an example.
'Primer' taps into imagination in such a seamless, and confident sort of way. I was immersed. Since time travel doesn't exist (right? LOL) most of the lessons I gather from this is just appreciate the life you're living. Time travel seems cool, but trying to manipulate and control and change things to your advantage seems like it simply causes a lot more problems than it solves.
'Primer' is a movie I should probably watch again to grasp it a bit more. It's not very long either so it's very possible. 'Primer' is just a super fun watch!
I'll give 'Primer' an 8.4/10!

This is one of my favorite time travel movies and for as far as I know the only one which doesn't have any pardoxes in it. I did have to watch it twice though plus some youtube breakdown videos but even on the first watch I enjoyed it. I also remember watching Upstream Color which is the other movie of the same director which was weird but interesting even though I don't remember too much about that.
Primer is a real classic especially for the budget it was shot with. I also easily give it a 8.4/10
Glad to hear you enjoyed Primer too! I definitely want to watch it again, perhaps sooner rather than later. The length is super convenient and digestible and since it's so deep it doesn't feel short really. I'll have to give Upstream Color a chance one of these days. I love the style of Primer so I imagine Upstream Color will be solid too. Yes it's so impressive it was shot with a low budget AND twenty plus years ago as well.
Thanks for stopping on by you seem to be creating some cool content yourself :)

Thanks, I just love watching movies and have found that keeping a journal of the ones that I do get to see over the course of a year really adds to the overall experience. Perfect use case for Hive.
Completely agree, great idea. I'm sure it will be a fun journey! Life without books and movies would be a sad life indeed. Nothing beats a good story. Keeps life fresh and magical.
