Not particularly a fan of 'The Pirates of The Caribbean", it is refreshing though to see John Depp, in a totally different role where he has little need for eccentric costumes and weird makeup to be appealing. Captain Jack Sparrow of "The Pirates of the Caribbean" expresses a range I have not seen him in, and I liked what I saw, a perfect gentleman, in "The Tourist" movie.
The Tourist, as a genre, is more of a romantic thriller. This one revolves around an American tourist, Frank Tupelo (Johnny Depp), a maths teacher who is on his way to Venice to mend a broken heart. In the train, he meets the pretty mysterious Elise Clifton-Ward (Angelina Jolie) who deliberately crosses his path. Frank gets infatuated with her not knowing that she is actually using him. Without him knowing it, Frank is actually a pawn in a greater scheme of things as Elise is involved with a notorious criminal, Alexander Pearce, who is being pursued by Interpol. Assuming Frank to be Alexander Pearce, the Yard are not the only ones in pursuit. The British mobster, Shaw, who Alexander also robbed, in his role as a personal banker, is out to eliminate him, too. With his Russian thugs as companions, will Shaw get to Frank first or will the Yard?
A smoothly orchestrated case of mistaken identity, or is it really?
Settle down, and put on your seatbelts as the ride towards the climax promises to be very unpredictable.
This film has an intriguing plot to it (I love intrigues), very mysterious, the ending came as a shocker, not the least what I expected but very interesting.
A very dynamic performance by the cast, exotic locations and gorgeous costumes. Angelina Jolie is really the ravishing looking secret agent while John Depp is the perfect gentleman.
I would surmise that this is a very interesting movie with many surprising twists and turns.
My rating is 8/10.
You can watch it on Netflix.
