The music and the scenery (North Carolina is where it was filmed) really were a big part of this movie experience. Although I warned my American Lit classes not to watch this movie instead of reading the book, because it changes a lot of things--including who falls in love with whom and who dies.

It was an awesome experience and the scenery is impressive. It has been a long time since I read the book but maybe it is worth another read! I will have to see if I can dig it out.
