Queer is a 1950s Mexico scene that is an inspiration of the book by William S Burroughs. I saw this movie review first by @steemychicken1 and I was curious to watch it.
First of all I have no idea what Queer is or if it even exists in the dictionary.
To tell the truth I am not a fan of queers but I do not discriminate or judge, and as thus when I am watching a movie I tend to grab the moral lesson involved rather than focusing on the pleasure.
The first thing that inspired me to watch this movie is February being the month of love. Apparently I have no idea what love feels like any more, maybe because I'm too busy chasing money. This month I tend to explore more love movies of all kinds. Maybe it might rekindle whatever is left in there.
The Movie
Queer is the decent word used for Gay, lesbian, or transgender. In this movie emphasis is on the word Gay
Willian lee is a middle age man filtering away his energies chasing young men and drugs, lee spends all night rooming mexico city going on queer friendly bars and clubs, but despite the self pleasure, lee feels something is missing inside, an empty space that needs to be filled.
In a cockfight he saw Eugene Allerton, a clean young american who is always polite but kept his distance. Lee falls head over heels at first sight. Eventually they both ended up spending tremendous time with each other and started a relationship, but despite the countless love scenes Allerton never mentions if he is actually queer or not and this got Lee worried..
But all of that changed when Lee read about a telepathic hallucinating drug plant which the indians call Yage Which is now commonly called ayahuasca worldwide, Lee convince Allerton to join him on a trip to south america to get their hands on some in hope that the plant will fix their relationship
The Lessons
Love
I'll give this movie 7/10, The first thing learnt from this movie is, “Never be desperate when it comes to love and love should not be force”
When you give someone 100% love it becomes an obsession that can't be controlled, when both partners want different things in a relationship then whatever they both share or have wont even last a split second. Communication is the key and when there is none it becomes a problem.
Yage
Aside from the sex, and drugs this movie shows a tremendous meaning to things happening beyond life itself and human existence. For a fact I never knew such a plant called Yage existed. A plant which makes you talk to someone without speaking, however people often misunderstand the nature of the telepathy that can be achieved with yage
Yage is not a drug in the sense of normal telepathy, it is not recreational like cocaine or heroin in other words it does not get you high, and thus it is not a pleasant trip to unravel, if you think it will fix things for you when consumed, it might end up destroying it.
Yage is not a portal to some other place, it is a mirror and when you look into it you might not like what you see. It is like you are watching the truth either in your dreams or hallucinations and by the time you realize you're not ready for the truth it may be too late.
Dreams
Dreams play a very significant role in our daily life, it can either give hints of the future, memories of the past and fear of the present.
The dream sequence of Lee inside a doll house finding a snake eating his own tail is a symbol called the “Ouroboros” is a symbol of the cycle of life, death and rebirth. In this dream the Ouroboros represent Lee cycle of self destruction hence why the snake sheds a tear
The snake consuming itself represents Lee committing the same mistakes over and over again hence being trapped in the cycle of substance use, craving love, loneliness and being queer even after reincarnation. The snake was unable to move just like Lee after his relationship with Eugene as he remained single with just the lingering memories of the time spent with Eugene until his final breath.
Whereas the centipede in Eugene neck in the dream indicates how easy it is for gene to just walk away and move on from lee and his queerness even after telling lee he is not queer but enjoyed every intimacy they both had it shows he doesn't really love Lee as obsessive as lee does
So yeah sometimes seeking the truth might destroy a lot of things, So what if you do know the truth?, the best you can do no matter how it hurts is not to be stagnate or emotional about it. Look away, move on and let go.
