The Unholy is a 2021 supernatural horror film directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos. It focuses on the story of Alice Pagett (Cricket Brown), a young deaf and mute girl from Banfield, a sleepy Town in Massachusetts, who experiences something extraordinary after being almost hit by a car. That night she was bestowed with the gift of hearing and speech and in her visions, she sees a woman, Mary and becomes overwhelmed by thoughts that the Virgin Mary had appeared to her, and given her these capabilities for the divine healing of the people.
Gerry Fenn, (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a disgraced journalist, arrives in Banfield to fabricate stories as usual and make a few bucks, but discovers that Alice's miracles coincides with the same time he destroyed a kern doll, which had been apparently functioning as a prison for the soul of Mary Elnor, a woman executed for witchcraft in 1845.
As her fame grows, Gerry begins to uncover evidences that a sinister force may be at work there, that the being trying to have contact with Alice is not the Virgin Mary but an evil entity that wishes to manipulate her into making her a cult.
During the unfolding drama, Gerry learns that the spirit of Mary Elnor with whom Alice has been communicating, made a pact with Satan and now seeks to manipulate Alice's abilities to gather a following. And the horrible part, anyone who dares to stop her meets a gruesome end!
My review;
The first scene of the film starts me in a very unsettling and disturbed place, and it actually built up to something strange, horrifying, bringing the execution of this movie to life, and giving a horror-genre fan like me something to watch for ninety nine minutes. Make no mistakes, I had it all. From the jump scares so typical, to creature design and costume down to the everlasting struggle between good and evil.
Cricket Brown really slayed her role considering that she was a newcomer in this movie, her voice commands the screen and I was riveted by her outstanding performance.
It was a generally fierceful performance from the cast, Dean Morgan as the journalist, william Sadler as Father Hagan and Alice's uncle and the rest, it was really top of the class!
I would give it a rating of 9/10.

I remember whatching this movie. She got healed of her deafness and suddenly started performing miracles. The movie was indeed really interesting. The suspense was top-notch; the drama and unpredictability? just way up there
I'm glad you watched it too and found it equally interesting.
Thank you very much.
