I've been seeing a lot of mixed reviews about this second season but mostly negative. I think I may just wait for the 3rd season to be completed before I start watching at all.

You're doing the right thing, you probably won't be so disappointed if you watch it after season 3 comes out because what should happen at the end of season 2 will actually happen at the beginning of season 3.
