The first 30 minutes of Incoming might not grab you right away, but stick with it—it gets much better and ends up exceeding expectations. At first glance, it feels like a typical teen movie, but it defies several clichés along the way. Unlike the usual storylines where absolute nerds get lucky and have the night of their lives, this film focuses on regular kids (played by actual teen actors) who are navigating life pretty well.

There are some genuinely interesting side stories, and the friend group doesn't follow the predictable arc of fighting, reconciling, and chasing the popular girl. In fact, not everyone is after the stereotypical "it" girl. The teacher is portrayed as genuinely supportive, dealing with students' personal issues in a way that feels realistic. The main character doesn't endure the usual trope of being beaten up, and the sister gets a compelling character arc of her own. Even the side characters show growth, like one who finally finds his courage.

While it does stick to some standard teen movie tropes and can feel a bit over the top at times, Incoming still manages to offer surprises and subvert expectations. Yes, it will make you cringe occasionally, and no, it's not a family-friendly watch. But for single guys aged 15 to 25, this film I would recommend.

Streaming on Netflix, Incoming perfectly captures the highs and lows of high school life, friendships, and first loves. The talented and relatable cast, combined with its mix of humor and heart, makes this a feel-good movie that tackles real issues with authenticity. If you're looking for a lighthearted film that will take you back to your teenage years, Incoming is a must-watch.
I'll rate a solid 8/10👍
