SYNOPSES

Dieko (Bimbo Ademoye) lives with her grandpa Gbenga (Sir Chris Akwarandu) and they’re inseparable. Dieko’s search for a good paying job causes her to cross paths with Uduak (Bisola Aiyeola) and coincidentally, Luther (Timini Egbuson).

Life has a way of playing tricks on us. Put in the Nigerian parlance, “life go whine you but nor fear!” Dieko is faced with circumstances that threaten her resilience.

She puts on a bold front regardless, determined to push through even in spite of hearing the worst news ever. She’s pushed to the wall, till she has to take a drastic action. The question now is, 'will her actions make or mar her?'

MY REVIEW

So, straight up, this movie is Netflix or Prime Video worthy cause why not? Oh, it's available on Bimbo Adayemo's YouTube Tv. Not any of the above two platforms.

The diction, the vocabulary, the costume, the makeup, the ambience, the camera quality, the…the sound…you name it! Everything screams class

The very first scene was breathtaking. I loved that outfit Dieko had on. I mean two popping colours yellow and blue, it was gorgeous on her. Bisola took the character of Uduak like her life depended on it. That was some incredible performance right there.

Now, let’s talk about the character of Vivian (Osereme Iniegbenebor.) She’s cute and all but if I come across her, I may have to give her a piece of my mind for her overbearing and excessively condescending sick attitude. She embodied that role though - a character to håte.

I loved Biodun Stephen’s performance here too as Mrs. B. Everyone brought on their A-game! Timini did awesome too. As always, he and Bimbo did their thing and the chemistry was great. Although i wished she had used someone different to play that role and not him. He's good and they have amazing on-screen chemistry but....someone else this once.

Daniel Etim Effiong would have prolly been a better fit for that role in my opinion, but then that would have maybe affected other aspects of the story when it comes to age differences and all. So, it’s fine. Timini didn’t do badly anyway.

While the duration was unnecessarily long with certain dragged or extended scenes, especially the Lagos to Abuja bus trip and other repeated conversations, the lessons herein however cannot be overlooked.

One particularly striking message passed is that if you’re in a place where you’re constantly made to feel worthless, it’s best to take a walk. You may or may not be missed cause karma doesn’t always happen in real life. However, you owe yourself peace, love, and happiness enough to ensure you give yourself just that.

I would have loved more visuals for Uduak’s backstory instead of just the talks. There was plenty of time for this, which was rather wasted on other parts that weren’t as significant.

Also, Dieko’s friend vanished out of the movie just like that. It was not nice. I know there was a mention of her later on, but it sounded more like an afterthought during editing.

I loved the ending. It reminds me of one of Bimbo Ademoye’s movies. Can’t remember which one now. That movie ended in a similar way, too (I’m talking about the grave side thingy).

When Dieko finally stood up to her oppressor, I loved it, but it seemed somewhat far-fetched at some point as the recipient just sat there like cat got their tongue. For how much the other was revered and feared and the amount of words that came out of Dieko’s mouth…come on nau!

Overall, this is a beautiful watch nonetheless! I had gone on to see the movie because i thought it was set in the season just as thecinetv contest prompt for the week, which i had intended to participate in, requested. However, it's not exactly a Christmas movie. It’s rather an all-year rounder that just happened to be set around Christmas time. It’s absolutely worth the watch.
I'll give this a 7/10
