The first thing that attracted me to watch this movie was the combo of Mercy Johnson and Mike Ezuruonye. These are both Nollywood veterans.
The first time Mike cracked me up was in a movie (can’t remember the title now) where he went for omugwo in his daughter’s house after she put to bed. That film had me in stitches.
I have not been able to see him differently after that, as, merely seeing his pics on a poster alone, I’m already laughing.
Mercy Johnson has been effortlessly serving us laughter pills being quite versatile in her performances since the beginning, especially from when she featured in “Dumebi” with another actor.

SYNOPSES
In this movie titled “Penny Pincher," Mercy Johnson herself plays the character of a pregnant woman, Ogechi, married to a miser, Alloy, played by Mike Ezuruonye. They equally have a son who’s barely three yars old. Alloy is so miserly that he negotiates everything that concerns spending in the house, including the welfare of their son.

MOVIE REVIEW
When I saw this poster and the title, I was firstly attracted by the cast, and then the next thing that came to my mind was Mike must be a very stingy man in this movie. Turns out I was correct.
When I clicked to watch, I was particularly impressed by the runtime since it was fair enough. Anything longer than that would have been some over-talking and dragging of scenes. I often get bored when comedies are dragged.
So this film delivered in terms of duration.
It also delivered in message passed, which is to the effect that when faced with domestic violence, know your right whether as a man or as a woman to report to Human Rights. Alloy was shocked when his wife Ogechi threatened. He didn’t see it coming.
Nevertheless, the big question is, are these agencies operational in Nigeria? Do they actually fight for the rights of the women or men who are physically, emotionally, sèxually or financially abused by their spouses or do they end up victim-blaming so much so that less and less people often do not see that as an option?
I honestly wish that these agencies are effective and efficient in Nigeria to curb the menace of domestic abuse in homes. Many persons are dying in silence for fear of what people will say, and the perpetrator continues in all boldness.
This movie, though, employed several characteristic stories from both old and new Nollywood. The plot, however, served its purpose and the actors delivered.
Some parts may seem unrealistic, but some of it happens in real life like where a side chick befriends and helps the woman who has been cheated on. April did great.
I suspected April for some foulplay with Alloy’s money, but that aspect wasn’t explored in the movie. Possibly left for the viewers to unravel.
Overall, this was a good watch; some laughter remedy after a long day’s work. It’s one of those movies that easily eases one of depression and replaces burnt out energy. I enjoyed it. You would.
I'll give rhis movie a 7.5/10
