On a boring day with no complete Korean series to see, I decided to settle for whatever my roommate had to give me from her list of movies. She had not seen most of the movies she had so it was a very random pick when she sent me this movie "Space Sweepers". I had seen a clip of it on YouTube shorts and one thing got me curious to check it out immediately she sent the movie.
It's a weird reason but the guy (Nas Brown) speaking in my country most used dialect (pidgin) had me curious to see the movie. There are more reasons I got to enjoy the movie but yeah, that drew my attention first. It's a movie that had me hooked from start to finish, so much comedy, thrills and actions. I never had a pause.
Space Sweepers is set in the year 2092 about a crew called victory of a space junk collector ship, they found a humanoid robot, a mass destruction weapon. I made the mistake of reading this about the movie before seeing the movie, why was it a mistake? It kinda reduced my expectations as I couldn't help but wonder how they plan to pull off the setting of a Year 2092 in the year 2021 lol.
The story starts of with Song Joong-ki as Tae-ho living in mars who identifies as a father in search of his adopted daughter and hustling so hard for money to pay for the search. The very first scene blessed me with the main reason I decided to see the movie (Nas Brown speaking pidgin in a very unfamiliar way lol) and he was speaking to Tae-ho who uses an automatic translator to reply.
The movie then takes us on to introduce the space ship crew, including Tae-ho and the Captain Jang (Kim Tae-ri) who won more attention with her leadership skills and quick action to solve problems on space. Most of the comedy in the story came from the other two members of the crew especially the robot lady whose dream is to have a human skin someday.
Their encounter with a humanoid robot, Dorothy added more thrills for the viewers as they set off to sell it off for a huge amount of money. Somehow they discovered what they stand to risk in selling it off to Sullivan, a powerful human in mars who plans to wipe out earth and rule over space. The Korean crew and the other humans in space had to step in and fight for their home.
I couldn't stop reacting loudly to many scenes in the movie, it was so loud that my roommate made the remark "Wow, my roommate is enjoying this movie o" for a movie she had thought would take a long time for her to see it. My reactions definitely got the movie on her next to watch list.
Besides the thrills and suspenses, there were scenes that had me feeling emotional like where Tae-ho finally got to see his long lost daughter. It was a proof that anything or anyone lost in 2092 that can be found, it was interesting to imagine that happening in real life. I also like the action scenes between the crew and the bad guys (Sullivan followers). I'm not an action movie fan but I was rooting for them all the way.
In the end, I saw how well they pull off year 2092 in the movie. Of course, we'd never know what it would really be like in that year but this movie gave something worth imagining. The movie also has a happy ending, what I least expected too for a movie of this kind. I'll highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys sci-fi and action movies, this one is for you. The movie is rated 9/10 by me.

The movie looks interesting already. I might not really be a fan of sci-fi movies but this is giving me some good feel vibes. I think I should try and check it out.
