I just finished watching Hitman (2024) and I've gotta say, damn, this was such a great movie!
The premise, plot, acting, development, everything! Everything was about perfect. Except for the small flaw I'm about to reveal, that is.
The hero, Glen Powell, did a terrific job!
It's ironic that in a post about the plot flaw of a movie I'm going to stress the best thing about the movie was the plot. And it is in no way because other aspects of the movie sucked.
Other aspects of the movie were top shelf, but still, this plot, even with its little imperfection, was the best thing about this movie.
Some of the reasons why the plot was that good was, that the story was about a policeman who had to pretend to be a hitman so that those who want to hire a hitman would contract him and they'll get arrested.
The story started off with him doing this successfully for a long time, it was so easy and fun, but we all knew it wouldn't be like that forever. We all knew there would be trouble in paradise sooner or later.
Like me, I'm sure most people were already guessing what the trouble in paradise might eventually be. The common guess has to be that one or more of the people arrested would come back for the fake hitman and that's where the story would kick off.
Or something of the sort that mainly has to do with this policeman's act coming back to bite him in the behind.
But none of that was the case. Instead, the conflict turned out to be a quite intriguing romance story that was very relatable and entertaining in a very unexpected and suspenseful way. Brilliant 👌🏾.
But, of course, this is one of my plot flaw posts.
The Flaw
At one point, the pretend hitman, Gary, fell in love with a suspect and their love blossomed into a regular affair that they had to keep an absolute secret because Gary was supposed to be a pretend hitman and not fraternize with suspects like that.
One night they went to a club, and on their way back they met the husband of the suspect. He was being an asshole so the pretend-hitman pulled a gun on him and the matter was settled.
Later on, this husband was killed and the Police were trying to solve the murder. They knew someone had pulled a gun on this husband, but didn't know it was Gary, and if they found out it was Gary the entire course of the story would have changed.
Gary would have been in a lot of trouble and the happy ending wouldn't have been possible.
The flaw is that in all the investigations, and suggestions, not once did they mention checking security cameras at the club or around the club. That would have easily identified this "guy who pulled a gun", this guy who was one of the suspects. This would have easily identified him.
But why did they never try?
In all the investigative movies you've ever watched. Every single one of them it was standard for security cameras to be checked once there's any question, so why was the security cameras completely ignored here?
That's just sad they ruined the movie with this. The only nice thing is that the movie got my heart and so when it lost our head with this illogicality I wasn't so pissed to the point of completely hating the plot.
But they should have done better. The simple solution should have been that the pulling of the gun be done at a place where a security camera wouldn't possibly have been. Or they should have made it to be that the cameras were checked but they were damaged or something.
The complete disregard for checking cameras or trying to find the suspect who'd pulled a gun at a dead person a while before the person died is just not acceptable.
The End
Hi there, my novella Professor Otagburuagu just got published. It promises to be thoroughly entertaining and intellectually stimulating. Written by myself and illustrated by Scandinavian artist @ katharsisdrill. You can get it from me for just 4 HBD.
You can also order the hard copy from anywhere in the world via this link:

Thank you!
Sad that you've ruined this movie, cause now I know of the flaw as well, lol. But that's something I'm certain I would have spotted as well. CCTV is literally the first thing anyone with two working brain cells check let alone the entire Police Force. Sad, but at least the other good elements in the film make this blunder permissible. Almost.
Heheh. Writing about plot flaws is impossible without spoilers.
Yeah, most people should spot it, though. Yeah, very permissible.
Although I've only seen Top Gun Maverick, it seems to me that Glen Powell has the potential to become a star.
Unfortunately, to do so he will have to get involved in better films than this one.
Yeah, I totally agree with you. We'll most likely see better from him in future.
