Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome 🤗
I remember bumping into this movie on Netflix the week it was released, and somewhere in my head I was like, When did Nollywood start producing Christmas movies?" I have watched a lot of interesting Hollywood Christmas movies, but prior to this time I don't think I had seen a Nollywood Christmas movie.
Sincerely, I was a bit skeptical about watching the movie, but another part of me was very curious to know about the movie and what the motivation behind it was.
I had to go watch the trailer first because I didn't want to waste my data on something that would get me angry at the end, and after plenty of contemplation, I decided to give it a try, and one of the reasons was because of the late Mrs. Rachel Oniga, who acted as mama; she actually died before the movie was released. May her soul continue to rest in peace.
SUMMARY OF THE MOVIE
A Naija Christmas is a 2021 drama-comedy Nollywood movie that is directed by Kunle Afolayan. The movie is about mama Agatha (Rachel Oniga) and her three sons.
Mama Agatha is not getting younger, and she's worried that none of her three sons are making any attempts to get married, and she's in need of a grandchild because some of the women in her meeting (ladies of undiluted destiny) are mocking her for not being a grandma yet at her age, so she made a proposal to her three sons that if any of them get married first before Christmas, she would give them the family house at Ikoyi as inheritance.
This is where the competition between the brothers started.
Ugo, who happened to be the first son, is a Casanova who has broken the hearts of numerous women. Before their mom's proposal, he taught as the first child he was to inherit the house, but seeing how serious their mom was, coupled with the fact that he is in debt, he is owning a notorious loan shark. He decided to do whatever it takes to get a wife so as to get the house, sell it off, and pay off his debt.
Obi, the second son, on the other hand, is a dedicated young man who is madly in love with his colleague, who doesn't love him but is using him while his best friend Kaneng is in love with him without his knowledge.
Chike, the third son, doesn't care about the inheritance but is in a secret relationship with someone they know nothing about.
MY OPINION/REVIEW
The movie is entertaining; I had a good laugh while watching it, mostly when Ugo was mocking and mimicking Obi when he was rejected by Vera.
The movie showss how moms in some African homes will not allow you to breath and keep reminding you that you are still single and how their mates are now grandparents. They can do anything or go to any length to make sure their children get married.
I also love the fact that there was love amongst the brothers despite fighting for the house; when Obi found out about Ugo's debt, he helped him pay it off.
The Christmas gala that was organized in Mushin depicts what the true essence of Christmas is. Christmas is all about putting smiles on the faces of people, sharing joy and love with one another.
The actors all did well and if am to rate them it would 4/5 because they did well and beat my expectations
