One of the solid examples of the psychological pressure genre I've followed. The script is so beautifully constructed that in my opinion, the audience starts to determine their own ending from the moment the movie starts. There are really so many open-ended details that these details make the audience read the movie. The movie can give you the opposite corner. Your initial thought may eventually change. In short, anything can happen in this movie.
The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as U.S. Marshal Edward "Teddy" Daniels, who is sent to the titular island to investigate the disappearance of a patient from a psychiatric hospital.
The movie begins with Teddy arriving at the island with his new partner, Chuck Aule (played by Mark Ruffalo), and the two immediately notice the eerie and oppressive atmosphere of the place. As they begin their investigation, they encounter the hospital's enigmatic head administrator, Dr. John Cawley (played by Ben Kingsley), who is uncooperative and evasive.
Teddy and Chuck also encounter a number of patients at the hospital, including a disturbed woman named Rachel Solando (played by Emily Mortimer) who claims to have killed her children. As the investigation progresses, Teddy begins to experience strange and disturbing visions, which are revealed to be the result of his own repressed trauma.
One of the standout aspects of "Shutter Island" is its exceptional cast. DiCaprio delivers a powerful performance as Teddy, conveying the character's internal turmoil and unraveling psyche with skill and conviction. Kingsley is equally impressive as the enigmatic Dr. Cawley, and the supporting cast, including Ruffalo and Max von Sydow as the hospital's head psychiatrist, are all excellent.
The film's production design is also noteworthy, with the bleak and atmospheric setting of the island adding to the movie's overall sense of unease and suspense. The cinematography is similarly impressive, with the use of light and shadow effectively conveying the madness and confusion that Teddy is experiencing.
"Shutter Island" is a gripping and thought-provoking psychological thriller that showcases Scorsese's masterful direction and the talents of its exceptional cast. It's a film that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
The unmissable movie that awaits us on a dark and mysterious journey to track down a missing patient and understand how she escaped from the hospital.

Which would be worse: to live as a monster or to die as a good person? Fans of famous novelist Dennis Lehane know that if they're going to take "The Mysterious River" or "Save My Daughter" as a reference, they shouldn't expect a happy ending while watching Dungeon Island. Who knows how many more good movies we haven't seen. I can't understand why such a good movie can't be made these days.
Excellent movie...
I agree with you that good films are becoming fewer and fewer.
