Hello movie buffs, the comments about this movie caught your attention, why is everyone talking about the ending of this thriller? I must confess that at first I thought it was more of the same of those movies in the best Sherlock Holmes style where the detective investigates a murder and everyone is a suspect. Other things that encouraged me was the cast of actors. The film was released in 2023, is set at West Point in 1830 and tells a horror legend that surrounds the poet Edgar Allan Poe, played by Harry Melling, helping in the investigation of a brutal murder of a cadet at the United States Military Academy. To investigate this crime, they call on a retired detective, Augustus Landor, played by Christian Bale. Along with Bale and Melling we see other well-known faces such as Lucy Boynton, Gillian Anderson and Robert Duvall.
Hola cinéfilos me llamo la atención los comentarios de esta película, ¿por qué todo el mundo habla del final de este thriller?, debo confesar que al principio pensé que era más de lo mismo de esas películas al mejor estilo de Sherlock Holmes donde el detective investiga un asesinato y todos son sospechoso. Otras de las cosas que me animó fue el reparto de actores. La película se estrenó en el 2023, está ambientada en West Point en 1830 y narra una leyenda de terror que envuelve al poeta Edgar Allan Poe, interpretado por Harry Melling, ayudando en la investigación de un brutal asesinato de un cadete de la Academia Militar de los Estados Unidos. Para investigar dicho crimen, reclaman a un detective retirado, Augustus Landor, al que da vida Christian Bale. Junto a Bale y Melling vemos otros rostros conocidos como Lucy Boynton, Gillian Anderson o Robert Duvall.
Scott Cooper directs this romantic horror story in which Poe and Landor team up to try to answer the crime that occurred at the academy. Throughout the course of the investigation, another murder is committed that, beyond being simple deaths, has the addition of a kind of satanic ritual in which the bodies appear heartless. So, although the academy tries to guide Landor to investigate the cadets, he begins to suspect a local family: the Marquis, made up of Dr. Daniel Marquis (Toby Jones), who performed the initial autopsy, his wife Julia (Gillian Anderson) and their children, Artemus (Harry Lawtey) and Lea (Lucy Boynton). Finally, they are accused of the murders and are even surprised in the middle of the ritual when they try to steal the heart of young Poe.

Up to this point everything seems normal, it would simply be another exceptional Netflix movie. However, the academy crimes hold a great final surprise, giving the plot an unexpected turn. One of the things I must highlight is the performance of Harry Melling, the British actor who two decades ago became famous playing Dudley Dursley, Harry Potter's unbearable cousin in the fantasy saga inspired by the books by J. K. Rowling. Melling plays cadet Edgar Allan Poe, the man who many years later made his contribution to universal literature. The settings take us back 200 years where we can appreciate classic mansions, old doors that squeak when opened, fields of snow, letters written with fine pens and many chandeliers, indisputable components for the film to captivate you. Hasta aquí todo parece normal, simplemente se trataría de otra excepcional película de Netflix. Sin embargo, los crímenes de la academia guardan una gran sorpresa final, dándole un giro inesperado a la trama. Los voy a dejar con la curiosidad para que se animen a verla. Una de las cosas que debo resaltar es la actuación de Harry Melling, el actor británico que hace dos décadas se hiciera famoso interpretando a Dudley Dursley, insoportable primo de Harry Potter en la saga de fantasía inspirada en los libros de J. K. Rowling. Melling da vida al cadete Edgar Allan Poe, el hombre que muchos años después diera su aporte a la literatura universal. Los escenarios nos llevan a 200 años atrás donde podemos apreciar las casonas clásicas, viejas puertas que chillan al abrirse, campos de nieves, cartas escritas con plumas finas y muchos candelabros, componentes indiscutibles para que la película te atrape. Hola, a lo mejor en las primeras escenas te va a parecer una película de asesinatos más, pero a medida que va pasando la trama y si eres buena observadora te irás dando cuenta hacia donde puede ir el final, pero también te vas a sorprender. Gracias por comentar
