The first teaser for the second season of The Last of Us was recently released, and, as expected, the controversies and conversations about it have not been long in coming.

Although it is far from perfect, the first season of TLOU was an incredibly solid adaptation, which knew how to take the most characteristic elements of the video game created by Neil Druckmann (both in terms of aesthetics and on a thematic level) and adapted them into 9 episodes that knew how to immerse us very well in the post-apocalyptic world of Joel, Ellie, and a couple of secondary characters. However, considering the narrative nature of the first game (and its length) we must recognize that it was a relatively easy task, especially considering that the right casting was available, and the resources provided by a production house like HBO are not exactly humble.

The second season, on the other hand, does not have such an easy task, and partly for that reason it has been almost two years since we last saw a new episode, and we will have to wait until April to see what will happen. But what makes things so difficult?

As some of you may know, TLOU Season II would be in charge of adapting The Last Of Us Part II (Obviously), a video game that is characterized by telling its story in a non-linear way, featuring a major time jump (where we follow Joel and Ellie a couple of years after the original adventure), as well as a couple of very brave but questionable creative decisions, which ended up making it one of the most divisive video games in modern history. And, while I wouldn't like to delve into specific events (to avoid spoilers), trust me when I tell you that bringing all of this to our television screens will not be an easy task.

Still, it is not necessary to know what happens to question certain specific decisions, such as the casting of Bella Ramsey in the role of Ellie, who in my opinion fit perfectly with the version of the character that we follow in Part I, but who physically does not convey the maturity that we expect from an adult Ellie. Likewise, those more visceral moments of Season 1 gave us a glimpse that regardless of her physique, she is a woman capable of portraying her wildest side.

On the other hand, Pedro Pascal surprised the world with his role as Joel, who is slightly warmer and friendlier than his virtual counterpart, but who at the same time knows how to land the heaviest and most emotional moments of his story.

The Last Of Us Season II will be quite controversial and you don't have to be a genius to know that, but I, considering the quality of the first season, have faith in Craig Mazin's ability to make this incredible story a reality, and, in the worst case, I am certain that it will not leave anyone indifferent.
