A couple of days ago, Letterboxd's "Year in Review" finally came to light, a sort of summary of our annual statistics that joins this new tradition started by Spotify platforms, and to which others such as YouTube or Apple Music have joined.
The interesting thing about Letterbox, obviously, is that unlike the examples I mentioned above, it is not an app to listen to streaming music, but rather a sort of diary/social network where we can record all the movies we have seen, as well as rate them, create watchlists and see the reviews written by our friends and people from all over the world.
And, although the most interesting aspects of the Year in Review are exclusive to the platform's pro and Patreon users (a service that unfortunately I have not yet been able to pay for, although I would like to in the future), we all receive an email this year with information about it for free.
PD: they are gifting a free month of MUBI with the wrapped
In my case, I didn't expect my most watched actor to be Timothée Chalamet and my most watched director to be Trey Parker, although if we stop and think about it it makes perfect sense.
Timothée Chalamet was involved in several very important films, in fact, one of them was in my top favorites (Dune Episode II), in the same way we can't forget his brilliant performance in Wonka (which I ended up enjoying against all odds), and the fact that I took the trouble to revisit several films in which he participated with minor roles (Entergalactic and Interstellar).
On the other hand, the presence of Trey Parker is a bit strange, but again it makes sense considering the large number of South Park specials that have been released this year, and that although they have various levels of quality (from good to mediocre) they never fail when it comes to giving us a couple of minutes of fun.
My most watched movie style was "moving relationship stories", a category in which we could frame several dramas and romcoms, Challengers comes to mind (another of my favorites), the previously mentioned Entergalactic, and my classics of all time like When Harry Met Sally.
Again, the week I watched the most movies was the first of 2024 (a direct consequence of the free time when the year starts), and my highest rated movies were Challengers, Longlegs and Dune, all gems within their respective genres that I highly recommend watching.
Even though I didn't see as many movies as I would have liked, it was a year in which quality was very present, and that's what matters in the end.
Letterboxd is a wonderful platform and I recommend anyone who enjoys cinema to give it a try, especially if they like to keep their to-watch list and the list of movies they've already seen well organized.
