Hello everyone. It's been a while here. I saw the prompt for this week's contest and I knew I had to jump on it.
As a movie lover and also a lover of music, I must say I have seen my fair share of movies with musicals. I think it's my second favorite movie genre, the first being Horror 😃😃😃.
Today, I will be sharing a Movie with Musical which I really loved watching. It took me a while before I had to delete the movie off my phone as I held on to it for too long.
The title of the movie is “PURPLE HEARTS”.
It is said that sometimes, people find love in strange ways. That is the case of Luke Morrow (Played by Nicholas Galitzine) and Cassie Salazar (Played by Sofia Carson). They had a fake marriage in order to get benefits.
“PLOT”
Cassie, an struggling musician in a band named “The Loyals”, was diagnosed with type 1, diabetes. Her insurance doesn't cover up for the amount of insulin needed for her to be able to survive. She works multiple jobs in order to pay her bills but it doesn't seem to be enough.
She met Luke, a Marine at a bar where she and her band “The Loyals” bartend and also play for people in the bar. Cassie learnt from one of her band members that being married to a Marine gives one an advantage of having free medical insurance.
Luke, on the other hand, had made some mistakes in his past. He became an addict after his mum died and despite the fact that he later became clean and tried to turn his life around by joining the Marine, he still owes money to his dealer,Johnny(played by Anthony Ippplito) who keeps threatening him to pay up what he owes. He had no other option than to team up with Cassie to have a fake marriage which will benefit them both.
Being a shotgun wedding(though Cassie wasn't pregnant in this case) they knew they had to keep up with pretenses, act like they were in love with each other by constant texting, emails, calls. They did this in order to avoid being caught as that would lead to Luke being court-martialed.
They planned to keep up the ruse for the duration of Luke's tour after which they will get divorced and go their separate ways. But an unforseen and unfortunate IED explosion which damaged Luke's leg during his tour led to an alteration in their plans.
“What I Like About The Movie”
Love indeed is a powerful force. Despite the fact that they got married under false pretenses, they both inspired each other.
Cassie, after learning about what the Marines go through, wrote an original song titled “Come Back Home”, which she played for the Marines on one occasion where they all had a rough day. The song helped uplift their spirit.
Luke also inspired Cassie to write other original songs like "I Hate The Way" and "I Didn't Know" which went viral and their band became well recognized.
Cassie's involvement in Luke's life helped him reconcile with his father as they were both at odds due to Luke's past as an addict.
“What I Didn't Like About The Movie”
After it was known by the Marines that Luke and Cassie had a fake marriage(courtesy of Johnno), Luke was sentenced to six months in the brig after which he received a Bad Conduct Discharge. I felt that was a bit harsh. Yes, he broke the law, knowing fully well, he violated the U.S Military Law. But his accomplishment (receiving a Purple Heart like his father) should have helped him get a lighter sentence.
Another thing is that, despite their difference at first, they both ended up falling for each other and the marriage became real to them.
But, on the other hand, the law is the law and no one should be above it.
This movie is an interesting one. For those that are yet to see it, do give it a try.
This is one of the songs I love most in the movie. The video is gotten from #Youtube

This movie is nice. Some how, it usually feels like flash marriages end up bringing two hearts together 🤩
I agree. Sometimes we never can tell where we can find love.
Thank you for stopping by.
