VENOM: THE LAST DANCE

Hunted by both their worlds and with the situation becoming increasingly dire, Eddie Brock and Venom are forced to make a destructive decision that will lead to the final chapter of their shared journey. Theoretically, this is the last installment of this trilogy. Is it worth your attention?

🟢 Positives

  • It's well-directed. You have to give it credit for that.

  • I like Tom Hardy, and he's just as good in this movie.

  • The third act, featuring the final battle among all the symbiotes, was satisfying and delivered some solid entertainment.

  • It's primarily aimed at a younger audience.

  • The Eddie-Venom relationship serves as the emotional core of the movie and is one of its highlights.

  • While chaotic at times, it has a certain charm that keeps you engaged as a viewer.

❌ Negatives

  • It suffers from the same issues as nearly all three Venom movies. Personally, it had more jokes than I would have liked.

  • It teases the main villain without providing anything substantial about them, which is disappointing. It’s clear Knull will play a role in the future.

  • The biggest problem with this film, as with the others, is the lack of a core story. It tells us what might happen but ultimately doesn’t deliver much. A shame.

  • The beginning is quite underwhelming for the genre it represents.

  • Some of the CGI looks rushed.

  • The scene with Mrs. Chen and the dance—completely unnecessary. 🤷‍♂️

  • There’s no meaningful development for the supporting characters.

BASIC INSTINCT

The unmistakable (to me) unapologetic intent of Verhoeven to present, back in 1992, a guilty pleasure called "Basic Instinct" makes me approach my review of the film in the same spirit.

Thematically, it’s not groundbreaking or revolutionary—it’s an erotic mystery thriller that caused an uproar upon release. And rightfully so, as the now-iconic interrogation scene with Sharon Stone made cinematic history and essentially cemented her status in Hollywood.

Sharon Stone seems perfect for the role and delivers a strong performance, exuding an overt and seductive eroticism. She portrays a devilishly alluring woman in a way that captivates the audience.

On the flip side, I personally didn’t care for Michael Douglas in this role. I don’t have much fondness for him as an actor in general.

Verhoeven does a great job, adding a touch of virtuosity to his direction. The twists are plentiful, the pacing is brisk and engaging, and the voyeuristic game is ever-present.

The Oscar nominations for editing and the score were well-deserved.

It’s a film you won’t get bored of, and it remains just as enjoyable even today.
