This movie, at first glance, looked irresistible from the poster for the sake of ma’am Chioma Nwosu and the ever gorgeous Ghana’s Nadia Buari. Regardless, I remained skeptical about watching for two reasons:
The movie is showing on Uchenna Mbunabo’s YouTube channel. That dude seems to have signed a permanent contract with his movies to not be anything less than 2 hours, whether the plot and storylines are worth it or not
The title of the movie: Would they be able to reflect this in the story?
Now, upon watching, the two aforementioned ladies delivered and executed their roles perfectly. Maurice Sam also did great in the interpretation of his character, but that’s about that in the movie.
My fears and reservations were not only confirmed, they stared me in the face the whole time so much, so watching the unnecessarily long duration of 2hours 17minutes at a 1.5x speed couldn’t even help my situation. Till now, I’m still looking for the alphabet in this love story. Someone, please help me.
While the storyline would have been good and interesting, the plot and direction were as predictable as the way one could tell for a fact what month follows after another in a year!
The moment I saw Maurice Sam’s character as a ‘single father’ and Nadia Buari’s as a lady mistreated in a relationship by her boyfriend, there, I already had my ending and thus was it - a knight in shining armour once again to the rescue.
That shouldn’t have been a problem as movies these days be it Nollywood or Hollywood are often recycled albeit the plot in this one wasn’t exciting or engaging enough to be compelling. So many dialogues and monologues seemed forced and disjointed.
I'd never been so upset at a boyfriend character the way I was with that guy! The manner with which the actor in question carried that role was equally annoying. Like, who does that? His outbursts and behavior were as irrational as they were unbelievable.
I get what they were trying to portray about good women ending up with irresponsible men. They, however, went about it the absolute wrong way.
Now, let’s talk about the 11-year-old ‘daughter’ reading a 16-rated novel. Well, it’s good she was open about it but that bit got me worried for the message it would pass to pre-teens her age watching the movie cause her actions appeared to have been justified later on which shouldn’t to be honest.
Although the little girl who played that role is beautiful, charming, and good with the camera, her acting skills and script manifestation would need some touches. Her speech mannerisms had frictions as it appeared she was trying a little too hard to use a diction, which wasn’t hers. I mean no offence…I come in peace. I just love natural acting, and I appreciate it when people speak naturally too.
The writer of the story, the producer of the movie and the director of the plot had an aim which is to highlight the impact of emotional abuse in relationships and also the common “don’t judge a book by its cover” but the execution failed to hit target and drive home these points for believability as the execution was flawed being that they imbibed the stereotypical Nollywood style of storytelling and ending.
In the nutshell, this is a very Uchenna Mbunabo movie. I was hoping to enjoy it but sadly, I didn’t. Nevertheless, it could be for you, though, as movies appeal to viewers differently.
If you have time to spare, you could give this a try or look for something more worthwhile.
Thanks for stopping by.
SOKA 🖤
I understand your frustration. Sometimes, the storyline and the character play fall even have good actors.
I am really not into Nollywood much, but I like the story line of this movie, will give it a try
I love movies like this. You have actually given me a best movie to watch today and I am coming with the review. Let see if I can give them a good remark also.
