CineTV Contest #117: Insidious Movies

in CineTVlast month

Hi friends! I barely made it to the deadline, but here's my entry for CINETV Contest 117: Favorite Spooky Movie.

I don't know when it started, but I've been a fan of horror films for as long as I can remember. However, I don't enjoy horror for the jumpscares or how bloody it could get sometimes. Mostly, it depends on the concept.

Among my favorites is Insidious. There are five movies in total, and I enjoyed all of them, though my favorites are the first, third, and fourth ones. I guess it's because the second and last ones were just continuations of the first movie.

One of the reasons I liked it is the concept of Astral Projection, an out-of-body experience during which a person's astral body can leave the physical body and travel in astral space.

In reality, some people claim to have experienced it especially when they have a near-death experience, but I've read a book in the past where people used to do it as a form of ritual, thus being able to do it at will. It was an old book I found at the city library that one time, but I didn't get to finish reading everything because my bestie who went with me kept sneezing. hahaha

So yeah, in the movie, a child named Dalton was able to perform astral projection. He enjoyed the experience as his astral body traveled around. However, he went farther and farther away that he was unable to come back.

And when the astral body leaves the physical one, it would just be an empty vessel that's waiting to be filled.

Interestingly, when Dalton's parents asked for help, they found out that Josh (the father) was also a traveler. He's had really dark experiences in the past, so he was forced to forget it. However, he's willing to be in the dark place again to save his son.

Here's a trailer of the first movie below.

It's not the house that's haunted, it's your son!
Ahh~ this is a really iconic line by my favorite character in the movie, Elise. She's a psychic who has helped Josh when he was a child as well as Dalton.

Elise is such an awesome character and she works amazingly well with her sidekicks, Tucker and Specs. This trio made the story more entertaining. I guess it's also because of them that I enjoyed watching the fourth story.

I've watched Insidious movies multiple times already, but I don't really get tired of it. It's interesting and entertaining in a way. There are times when I forget it's a horror film because there are also some funny scenes... and the song "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" will always sound funny to me. (I don't know why.. huhu)

Insidious may not be on top of my list in the future, but it will always be one of my comfort horror films... (It's a crazy thing to describe a horror film as that, but yeah... can't help it. xD)

I'll end my post here. Thanks a lot for reading and see you around! (^^,)/

I am also a fan of horror. I should see this. It also has a concept I am a fan but of. Time/space travel

Cool! I hope you enjoy it. :)
What's your favorite? :)

This is one of those few supernatural horror films from this era that has had the most impact on me, honestly. The level of tension and visuals that this film has at many moments is incredible. I feel like watching the whole saga one of these nights.

Very good review.

Better have a marathon of this franchise this coming Halloween! :)

Thanks a lot... ^^
