Why Japanese Anime Industry has potential to develop their own cinematic universe?

So folks I was not active for almost a month due to certain work commitments but today I could not hold myself writing this article as yesterday I watched something phenomenal and I was really overwhelmed to see such a development in the Anime industry. The movie I watched yesterday was Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Yes I know it's a bit late as it was released in 2018 and one of my friends recommended it to me a week ago. So my first thought was it could be a regular DBZ movie as in recent years they have made good movies like Dragon Ball Z- Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Z- Resurrection "F". These movies were technically sound but the action sequences were quite close to previous movies or the Anime series. Story plots were good to a certain extent. But yesterday when I watched Dragon Ball Super Broly, it was way ahead than what I expected from it. Let's break it down and see how Japan's Anime Industry has escalated to the level where they can think of creating their own cinematic universe or even a multiverse. Kindly note this movie plot is very different from the two previous movies of Broly made in 1993 and 1994. They were also great in their era but this was a spectacular piece of art to watch. So lets begin-

Interesting Plot to watch

We all know plot is the best part in any anime as the idea is new each time. Here as well the plot they portrayed was really well written and presented. As I mentioned earlier the plot for DBZ or particularly Goku is quite similar to Superman as both are born on a certain planet of their own race. Both of the character's races come to an end and there are very few remaining. Both land to the planet with less technological advancement and where their abilities are enhanced. But there is a slight difference. In DB Super Broly, they have not only showcased the story of Goku but also Vegeta and Broly as all three are from the same race i.e. Saiyan/Saiya-jin. So the first half of the movie keeps us tight on the seats as they unfold certain events in the past. A lot to absorb in the first place as they have covered the story for all three strongest Saiyans in present day. Starting from Introduction to Frieza as King to him attacking Saiyan planet, all we need to know was presented. Now coming to the present day in the middle of the movie it starts from Universe Survival Saga. So for this you have to watch Dragon Ball Super. The end is something which is really massive and they have taken a lot of effort into it. The ending with the climax was perfect and satisfying but setting up for something new and promising. Of Course this setting may be covered in Dragon Ball Super which I am yet to watch. Yes, the climax of the movie was also awesome to watch with extravagant fight sequences and an unexpected twist at the end. But the movie ends with promising development.

Cameo Appearances

Second most thing I liked in the movie are the appearances. Right from Ginyu Force to King Cold, Bardock, King Vegeta to the present day Beerus, all the appearances made a blast in my mind. Such a power pack appearances was something which I was totally not expecting from the movie. Now of course here writers have really put efforts accurately as they were very sure about the screentime each appearance will be given. So there is one scene where Frieza's loyal Henchmen Zarbon and Dodoria along with all the Ginyu Force make an appearance on Planet Vegeta as King Cold visits him and declares Frieza as the Leader. Here King Cold's appearance also made a strong impact. Then we see King Vegeta for a certain time. We even see child Raddits in one of a scene. And then we see Bardock's appearance with Goku's mother whose screen time was closest to King Vegeta. Ohh My God, this was the first half and all these appearances will definitely make a DBZ fan nostalgic. Even I went frenzy and was emotional at a certain point of time seeing all these characters again on the big screen. Other appearances were Beerus and Whis. Now these two characters are from recent storyline but to see them was exciting as we have seen them and their power in detail in DBZ: Battle of Gods. Whis even has a good contribution when it comes to his role in this movie. We even see child Trunks and Goten in a particular scene. So that also made me feel cheerful. We even see many small appearances made by certain characters which were shown in flashback moments like Krillin, Buu and Cell. But one guy I was expecting till mid but forgot about him and whoosh he also made a cameo appearance in the end was Piccolo. Honorable mention here is the Dragon Shenron summoned through Dragon Balls. Best part is that all these appearances and their plotting was made in such an order that made this film a blockbuster. So kudos to the writers who took the decision on when to introduce certain cameo appearances as they were very accurate.

Surprise Elements/Twists

Surprise elements make movies much better to watch and satisfying. One element I mentioned above are cameo appearances. Second Surprise element was Frieza using the same technique to fire up Broly which he used accidently to fire up Goku. Killing the dear one and this time he remembers the killing of Krillin which made Goku a Super Saiyan. So he literally uses the same technique by killing Broly's Dad and firing up Broly which makes him uncontrollable. Other than that we see many elements like fights between Broly and Whis and Broly and Frieza. I never expected this to happen, believe me never ever!!! But we see a fight between Whis and Broly and Frieza and Broly which again made me go into a frenzy. Now the two most exciting and extravagant surprises, one of which many DBZ fans expected. One was Goku connecting with Piccolo in the mid battle as mentioned earlier and he helped Goku and Vegeta for fusion to become Gogeta. My God. Gogeta's element, though a known fact, felt like a surprise one. As mentioned in the above point, the use of Dragon Balls and using Shenron's wish also felt a little unexpected but great.

Technically Sound

The biggest difference between previous Broly Movies and this one is Technology upgradation. VFX is used heavily and accurately. Some scene transitions along with the right Soundtrack makes a movie a must watch. So there is a huge development in this segment in 20-25 years. Not only cutting edge animation but action sequences are also an extravagant affair. This definitely is nowadays used in many animes and movies. Recent example was a movie, Demon Slayer Mugen Train. Some of my favourite scenes from this movie were the Goku Vegeta intro scene, Broly approaching Vegeta, Goku challenging Brolly. Intro scene for Piccolo and all the Action Sequences in the entire last 40-50 Mins.

Satisfying End

Somehow Akira really has got a nac to write Goku character or to think like Goku. In the second part of the previous movie in 1994, Broly was killed by Mega Kamehameha attack. Here they changed the course and that was an unexpected twist to send Broly to his planet before he gets hit by Gogeta's Kamehameha attack. Here in this movie apart from Broly's father nobody dies at the end. Not even Frieza. And at last Goku visiting Brolly was one of the best moments in the movie as this shows the respect and faith created in one another after a fierce battle. Some Promising development was made as Frieza also shows intention to make Broly his enemy and fight him in the near future but first to use him for Frieza's own good.

So in the end Movie was awesome though I delayed watching it still it made my day today and now am again feeling refreshing to write some new stuff. And also my or in fact many of the Anime lovers dream come true would be setting up an Anime Cinematic Universe.
