I know I've said this severally, but then I still feel like saying it again to refresh my readers: "I love watching movies that are based on true life events." Such movies possess a certain level of potential that I can't explain. Often, when I see movies with the caption "true life event," I don't waste another second before downloading it. I do the download immediately.

But "Breakthrough" was a little different. First, the title gripped my attention because it was kind of attractive, and then the moment I looked further and saw that it was a true life event, "a sudden smile developed within me," and I was like, "You are the one" not my love story though.

The Plot

It tells the story of a teenager, John Smith, who is being raised by his adoptive parents, Joyce and Brian Smith; despite their loving and supportive nature, John still feels abandoned by his biological parents and why they don't want him but rather give him out for adoption.

John's grades were falling in school; his basketball coach promised to give him a starting spot if he got his grades back else he'd be benched. So John started working on his grades by doing a class presentation that was assigned to him. He gave his presentation by saying everyone knows he was adopted and he doesn't know much about his true background or parents.

Later on, John and his friends went out on the frozen lake, ignoring the warnings of falling into the ice from a neighbor. The three boys unfortunately fell into the icy lake; the resident saw the incident and called the police. The two friends, Josh and Reiger, were able to swim to the surface and were rescued by the first responder while the other two rescuers went inside the lake looking for John.

On the verge of giving up, one of the rescuers heard a voice telling him to go back into a lake, "thinking it was his chief's voice," so he tried again and found John's lifeless body. He lifts him up to the surface. With no pulse or breath, John was taken to the hospital, where an emergency team worked to save his life.

After John fails to register for a pulse, his mother, Joyce, is given a chance to say goodbye. A sweeping mother, she cradles John in her arms, pleading and praying to the holy spirit to breathe life into John. Immediately a faint pulse was registered.

I don't want to be a spoiler, so I'm not gonna say everything; I'm gonna leave you to watch this amazing masterpiece for yourselves.

My Review

Breakthrough is an inspirational movie based on the true life event of John Smith, a young boy who fell into the ice and his fight for survival. This movie is an emotional one; it made me cry at some point, and it shows how supportive and prayerful mothers can be in some dark moments of their lives.

I saw how Joyce fought beside her son; I know physically it felt like she wasn't doing enough, but deep down inside of her, it was all she had to do to save her son. When doctors lost hope and gave up on John, his mother didn't; she knew her son was gonna survive. Despite not having a pulse, she still believed that her son was gonna survive.

Sometimes, having faith in a hopeless situation can be hard, but then the scriptures also say that if our faith is as little as a mustard seed, it will work wonders for us, "never forgetting that."

I'm gonna rate this movie a 8/10, I will recommend for anyone interested in seeing it images are screenshots from my phone

Thanks for reading 🧡

I have watched this movie. It's really emotional and it tells the importance of prayer and having little faith

Having little faith is gonna move big mountains if we believe.

Faith, Hope and Doubts... What is life without them? For me, life is nothing without them.

Yeah. You are very correct

I remember watching this movie and ended up drenched in tears because it was so emotional. Most especially the part where his classmates sang 'Our God is an awesome God'. I love this movie and will love to rewatch it (when I'm ready emotionally)
