The Witch: Part one– The Subversion is a gripping Korean thriller written by Park Hoon-Jung and directed by Park Hoon-Jung; it is a 2018 action-thriller and horror movie about a young girl, ja-yoon who escaped from a human infant experiment facility.
She is found by a farmer who takes her in with his wife and raises her with no memories of her past.
This movie takes viewers on a suspenseful ride with twists, mystery, intense action, and psychological thrills. It shows what happens when an experiment done to have control gets out of control. Apart from the action and thriller moments, it explores deeper themes of identity, power, and the consequences of human experimentation.
Storyline
After a successful escape from a mysterious experiment facility, Ja-Yoon was living a normal life in the country side on the farm, helping out her foster dad, who had physical problems with his body—I think his leg or so, and her foster mom, who was now suffering from dementia.
So she decides to join a national TV talent show her friend showed her to win the money prize to support her mom and dad. The appearance of Ja-yoon on national TV immediately catches the attention of powerful and dangerous people like the renowned scientist who once worked on her and the mysterious organization backing the facility. And after she displays her unique talent at the competition on national TV her once quiet and peaceful life is turned upside down.
There is a suspense of Ja-yoon's true identity, is she really an innocent and weak girl that has gaps in her memories or is she all part of an ever darker scheme.
My thoughts
This movie never lacked in any of its genres—thriller, action, and horror. It set a kind of eerie and suspenseful vibe, and the camera and visual quality weren't lacking either. The best thing I loved about the movie was the aura building, that is something I love in my movies.
The movie taught me never to judge one by their physical appearance; I mean, who thought that Ja-Yoon, who couldn't even carry her school bag and was called lazy by her friend, was in a class of her own both in might and mind.
A scene from the movie that keeps on popping up in my head is when the men sent by the antagonist held a knife to a friend's throat, it was a really bloody scene.
One standout element is Kim Da-mi’s performance as Ja-yoon—she embodied the character so well that she brilliantly transitions from a sweet, innocent girl to a terrifying and violent being. Have you ever watched a movie and you are sure it was just acting but doubted that it was just acting? Yeah, she wasn't just able to play the role of Ja-yoon but also play the role of Ja-yoon, deceiving everyone, including the viewers, effortlessly.
When it comes to the action scenes, it's a chef's kiss with perfect cinematography. And the lighting found a way to blend and portray with every atmosphere they tried to set. The slow buildup in the first half might test the patience of some viewers, and the sudden shift in tone towards the climax can be conflicted. But overall, the suspense and intrigue make up for it.
Final verdict
All being said, I give the movie a rating of ⅘. But for someone who would like a well-concluded movie, and with part two of the movie de-railing and losing focus with a rushed plot, I will give it ⅖ rating.

Thanks for reading ❤️
This movie is truly suspenseful. Not like I've seen the entire thing but the trailer caught me in.
It's a very good movie.
The only problem is that when creating the part two they couldn't keep up to the good work of part one
