A Thing of Beauty and Pain

Anything to do with wheels, eh?

That's a broader spectrum. But I decided to go typical in a very untypical way.

This is the story How I Learned About Some Of The Parts.

If you're thinking it'd be a boring read, please wait till the end of the post, then decide. When I was a kid, cars seemed really cool. I remember having a purple Volkswagen toy car that had lime green tyres - it was pretty cool since I never liked dolls. But buses seemed cooler since they could carry more people. During my teenage years, I rode cars a lot since I was a spoiled princess and I'll say no more about that. But lately, cars seem to give me a lot of pain - I'll tell you why.

Well, my job consists of a lot of boring paperwork sadly. I complain a lot about my job but this isn't going to be one of those posts. One of the hectic things that I handle here is cars - repair bills mostly. And I tell you, it's not fun. It was always at the back of my head but I never truly realized before how much and how different kinds of repairs are needed in a car. In the beginning, I'd be so stumped as to what the heck are all these repairs for since I have never even heard of them. Sooner, I got accustomed to reading those bills. Luckily I don't have to personally go and check the repairs myself, although I think it'd be eye-opening. Well, I did learn that there is more than just regular servicing work or tyres and batteries.

Well, one good thing that came out is that even without looking at an engine, I know about some of the parts.

There's a Brake Pad and Brake Shoe - one set in the front and the other at the back of a car. Then there are Shock Absorbers - I don't know the kind of shocks a car experiences but it must be major since it needs one at the front and one at the back. Then there are "bush" of a few different kinds. And also the filters - a car needs its filters. Do you know there's even a part called Butterfly - I have no idea what that is though.

As much as these parts confuse me, they're no more confusing than a mechanic. You should see the quotations or the bills they send - I tell you a doctor's prescription is easier to read. Sometimes "link rod" becomes "ring rod" and I get confused if that's a thing. Then there's also *"tyrot end" and it boggles my mind so much. I kept wondering what it was and then I got to know its "tie rod end" - imagine how much I eye-rolled. I have yet to figure out what a "rakhend", "tevit liner" and "chamber boostic" is. But every once in a while I get extremely lucky and find that I could read every single thing the mechanic wrote - I thank the Almighty for those days and be extra happy for my eyes.

Then comes the rates. Yes, the rate of a car part is different in almost every store. It's not a big amount but 50 to 100 bucks give or take. But the more expensive the part is the more this price difference grows and it can go up to 500 to 800 but not more than that - a car shop still has to attract customers. Oh, I almost forgot. I also found out, for some parts, there are reconditioned ones and genuine ones - and obviously, the genuine ones are more expensive but reconditioned ain't half bad and it doesn't hurt the pocket.

(The crappy pictures are my taking... cringe)

The story of "how repair bills put me in pain" will not end so soon - but this post will.

Until next time...

Hi Fia!
This has been such a good a pleasing post to read! I don't see many posts like this these days.
And the mechanics, oh the mechanics! They have some very very weird terms when it comes to interior design as well and sometimes it's hard for me to discern what they mean. Luckily it's my partner who handles them.

not only the interior is complicated, the mechanics can turn those complicated parts to some alien mechanism just by misinterpreting it... oh I remember watching an episode of some series where some parts are named thingamajig or didlydoo if they don't know the name of the parts lol... how can something so pretty can be so terrifyingly complex

Tyrot end sounded like some sort of tarot card card and for a moment I was confused as to why would a car need tarot cards to function XDD

I first thought the part may look like the shape of a parrot smh... oh btw try reading the second picture

Hi Fia(2) apu!:P

You have no idea how a car works eh?:P without those shock absorbers, you may as well bring some flower eggs and rest of the materials to bake a cake. When you are done riding the car, both the cake, and you will be fresh out of the oven:P

on another note, I did about 110 over Amanat Shah bridge. Your ctg has evolved quite a lot.

wait till the new flyover is done... it'll will be more fun to speed over there and the roadside is even more spectacular
