I have been living in France 6 months now and one of the first things to strike you about the area is just how old all the buildings are.
A town quite close to my home is Terrasson-Lavilledieu on the river Vezere.
The town built up around a 6th century monastery dedicated to a hermit now called Saint Sour. Soure is said to have cured the local king Gontran of leprosy. Gontran then funded the establishment of the abbey.
Terrasson has been knocked down and rebuilt several times between the 12th and 17th century and the current church was built in 1889.
5th century sarcophages found in 2003 when rebuilding a property in the old town.
The bridge was made in the 12th century and although one arch was destroyed during the religious wars it is almost still fully intact.
The house Bouquier dates from 1614.
Terrasson is famous for its gardens and they work very hard keeping every bush and plant in perfect condition.
