RAISING A HYPERACTIVE CHILD

What is hyperactivity?

The hyperactivity of the baby is manifested in the fact that he cannot concentrate on one thing. He is too mobile and emotionally impulsive. Therefore, it can be very difficult to see the problem at a very young age. A hyperactive one-year-old still differs little from his peers. Children can still focus on something for no more than five minutes. They react violently to everything new and curiosity makes them mobile.

Where he came from?

It is difficult to say why a child becomes hyperactive. The baby can be affected by lack of oxygen during pregnancy (fetal hypoxia), infections suffered by the mother, birth injuries, and genetics. In the modern world, it is difficult to imagine a pregnant woman who would never experience stress or catch a cold during pregnancy. Therefore, pediatricians note an increase in the number of hyperactive children: up to 9% of all children of preschool age are included in this definition.

What if you do nothing?

There is an opinion that hyperactivity and other behavioral features are a temporary phenomenon that the child will "outgrow", so there is no need to worry about it. Unfortunately, this is not the case. It is very important that parents of hyperactive children notice problems as soon as possible to begin correcting them.

The more effort you put in and the sooner you start, the easier it will be for your child to attend kindergarten, go to school, and generally walk through life. Excessive physical activity, in fact, children outgrow as they approach adolescence. However, attention deficit and distraction can get worse over time. These "greetings from childhood" are not necessary even for adults.

The good news is that it can fix the deficiencies of hyperactivity! The development of hyperactive children and their success, first of all, depend on parents and daily communication with the baby in the right way.

What should parents do?

First, understand that your child is not behaving in the best way, not out of a desire to tease you or be capricious. It simply cannot do otherwise.

Mobility, irascibility, and forgetfulness interfere with the baby himself. That is why it is very important that parents understand and accept the peculiarities of the child's behavior and, at the same time, learn to correct their relationship building models if they interfere with the normal development of the baby.

Stop scolding your child for doing something wrong, leaving class in the middle, or not doing everything right. Severe disciplinary methods will not work; they will only increase anxiety.

Hyperactive preschoolers are very sensitive to sharp conversations. So take it easy and see a doctor: a psychologist and a neurologist.

The work of a psychologist with hyperactive children is not limited to routine examinations. The specialist will give you advice on how to properly build a regimen and change relationships in the family so that the child grows up in a comfortable environment.

The neurologist will evaluate the degree of hyperactivity, possibly prescribe sedatives. Do not worry! Children are selected drugs that do not have side effects, and their reception will correct growth difficulties.
