Hi there. In this education post I talk about the existence of tests for students as soon as the holiday break is over. The motivation behind this post is based from my work. One student in grade 7 has a test on a Wednesday in the first week back from the break. A few high school students (gr9 and gr10) have a test during the first week back at school too.
Student Breaks Over Holidays
For the holiday break students from grades 1 to 12 in the Toronto are typically have a holiday break for the week during Christmas and during the New Years week. This holiday break lasts around two weeks. Both students and teachers use the break to take time off of work and school.
I did write a post a year or two ago about the existence of assignment homework over the holiday break. The semester for high school students (grades 9 to 12) lasts from September to January of the following calendar year. A few rogue teachers assign homework over the two week holiday instead of giving an assignment the first week back from the break. Students may not have much of a break if they have this unfortunate case.
Tests Coming Back From Break
There are teachers who schedule tests during the first week back from the holiday break. Students may be given this test date information before the holiday break while some may be given this information as a nasty surprise upon returning from the break.
A scheduled test on the first full week back in school sounds a bit scary. Many students would use the break for vacations, family time, eating and playing. Not many would use the break for school work. There is not much time for test preparations if a test is scheduled on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday on the first week back.
