Many people are not even aware of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is a rather new concept that has been created by two researchers – Peter Salavoy and John Mayer.

Emotional intelligence is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.

In laymen terms it basically means to recognize and manage your own emotions as well as influence the emotions of others. Emotions often drive our behavior and it can either impact others negatively or positively. To be emotional intelligent means to cope with your feelings while under pressure.

We all have jobs and we all work under pressure. Some days are more difficult than others but at the end of the day we survive and we carry that burden home with us. Emotionally we are drained and we do not know how to handle all the emotions. We turn into "difficult" people to live with and it affects our families and our children. We take out our frustrations on anyone close and sometimes this leaves deep scars.

How do I become a responsible person?

  • To become a responsible person you need to keep your behavior under control.
  • Stop pointing fingers and stop blaming others. You are the only person that can control how you respond. If you made a poor choice in life, then make sure that you acknowledge that you made the mistake. No one can force you to make mistakes. The final choice is always yours to make.
  • No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. Try and be as positive as possible and change your attitude towards people. You can not always play the victim.
  • Try and focus on what you did wrong and apologize for whatever you did wrong. Sometimes a simple apology can change the world.
  • Get to know yourself. You know what makes you tick or what causes you to get angry. Try and avoid these situations.
  • Be more positive. A responsible person do not take praise for granted.
  • Accept compliments. This will boost your confidence in yourself and in others.
  • Focus on the positive instead of focusing on the negative.
  • Focus on leaving things at work and not bringing it home. This will definitely improve your family life.
  • Remember that practice makes perfect. If you practice to do this on a daily basis, then you will definitely see a change.

Emotional intelligence is one of the important things for the development and future of children.

Children who have high emotional intelligence will be able to manage their emotions, accept themselves and others, and can have more empathy for others and the environment. Because of this, it is important to teach emotional intelligence to children from an early age.
