The term methodology is the study of Methods and in this case, the Methods of Teaching. It is the study and practice of various Methods of Teaching. The implies that it is both the study of different Methods and the systematic way of organising various Methods and the systematic means of presenting subject matter and learning experiences. Methods of Teaching are instruments in the hands of the classroom teacher to determine the degree of the success of a lesson. To enliven the classroom environment for successful Teaching and learning, it is necessary for the Teacher to observe the following:
- He should use Appropriate Organizational Method to lay the class in the appropriate manner that will:
(a) Allow all the students to see and hear all that may be required, done or said in the lesson.
(b) All for social interaction among the students and between the teacher and the students for learning purposes.
(c) All for free movement in the class as may be necessary for the lesson.
(d) place the students in such a position that they can be easily controlled by the Teacher.
He should employ Stimulating activities within the framework of he dominant Teaching Method which is being used to:
(a) Arouse the interest of the students in the lesson.
(b) Get the students ready for the lesson.
(c) Enkindle the inquisitive spirit of the students so as to involve them in the lesson.During the presentation stage, the Teacher she use the most suitable Method accommodating other short Method or techniques as well as resources to:
(a) Explain the complex skill in the lesson;
(b) Emphasis the basic points;
(c) Involve the students in the lesson;
(d) maintain the interest and the attention of the students.
(e) Enhance the students understanding of the topic.The Teaching-learning activities should be evaluated and the purposes are:
(a) To have a feedback from the students.
(b) To reinforce and reward their efforts;
(c) To correct and give them remedial enforcement where they make mistake.The students should be given assignment on the topic to serve as: (a) Extra activities for practice;
(b) A means to Enkindle the spirit of self-study and investigation;
(c) A link between the topic and the next topic.
