Reading is one of the most important and most important things taught in schools. This process begins with the introduction of letters to students and next is an exercise that can connect each letter into words and sentences. Reading is important because with this it can make students know and know new knowledge every day.
In the educational model, reading is also one of the learning models so that students become focused and can stimulate their brains to more quickly understand and the emergence of a variety of questions. One method that can cause positive stimulation for students is the method of reading aloud, or reading aloud strategy.
Understanding the Reading aloud
is a form of strategy or way of reading text aloud that can help focus attention mentally so as to raise questions and design discussions through the pronunciation of vowels or consonants, speech tone or song, mastery of punctuation marks, grouping words or phases into units of ideas, eye speed and expression.
In the application of the stages of reading aloud, an understanding of the steps is needed that need to be applied before doing this learning model. The steps that need to be prepared are:
- Choose a text that is interesting enough to read aloud. Make sure the text is not too long.
- Give a copy of the text to students/students. Mark points or issues that are interesting to discuss.
- Split text by paragraph or otherwise.
- Invite several students/students to read different sections of the text. As the reading progresses, stop at several places to emphasize the importance of certain points, to ask questions, or to give examples.
- Give students time to discuss if they show interest in the point.
- End the process by asking students what is in the text.
There are several principles that must be considered in implementing the reading aloud strategy, which are as follows:
Understanding the nature of students
Basically, students have the nature of curiosity or imagination. This trait is the basic capital for the development of critical and creative attitudes/thinking.Getting to know students individually
Individual differences must be considered and must be reflected in learning, because students come from different backgrounds and abilities.Develop critical and creative thinking skills and be able to solve problems
The application of the reading aloud strategy of students is required to solve problems that have been prepared by the teacher in accordance with the subject matter.Provide good feedback to improve activities
Giving feedback is an interaction between teachers and students. Feedback should reveal the strengths and strengths of students rather than their weaknesses.
