(a) Heredity:
Some aspects of the child's social behaviour are said to be, at least, indirectly inherited Mouly, 1960). A
child with good physical structure or with physical assets as beauty, tall statue, a good set of teeth, etc is bound to be more easily adjusted socially than one who is ugly,
sickly or deformed. A physically strong child will develop faster socially than a physically weak one. The physically strong one will be able to move about, mee other children, develop more confidence in himself a these
achievements are bound to enhance his rate of social development.
Maturation has an important part to play in the child's rate and pattern of social behaviour shown.
Although a set of twins in a study were given some amount of stimulation to induce them to smile, they were Just ripe enough to do so (Dennis, 1938).
(b) Socio-Economic Background of the Child:
Does the child come from a home where all his basic needs are met? Has he to endure certain privations because his parents or guardians cannot just
Ke ends meet? Questions such as these have to be asked at times to be able to appreciate the social behaviour of the child in some circumstances children
are greatly influenced by the tVpe or home they come from homes vary a great deal. they rdnge between the economically secure ones dnd the poverty-ridden homes at the other extreme. Children from first type of
homes feel more secure and ongoing than children from the last type.
(c) Discipline and Type of leadership Experienced:
Discipline and type or leadership experienced at home, school or in the group to Which the child belongs,
will also affect the socia development of the child.
Baldwin (1955) found children from democratic homes to be more active, aggressive, fearless, playful, original,
curious, non conforming and more likely to be leaders.
On the other hand, children from autocratic homes according to him, appeared to be quiet, contorming. socially un-aggressive, lacking in (originality) and curiosity.
(d)The Physique of the Child:
Amount of physical viability which he possesse
how trong or how weak he is determines his degree
socialization. A physically strong child will develop a than tne physically weak one, but the physically strong
will be able to move around, meet other children, other children see and admire him. They laugh at a child displays some weak points including deformity, feel is the fault of the victim. it's in adulthood that the weak deformity is pitied. The weak fails to develop Socially. The physically strong child easily develops confidence in himself and this tends to
promote his social development.A child who is wiling to come up and speak to a stranger is likely to make friends than the child who withdraw from make a Stranger .
A child who is lacking in confidence, has a slower social development.
The amount or Success or failure experience also influence sociar relationship. One who Feels inferior tends to withdraw From company.Repeated Failures produce
aggressive benaviour in the victim. The domineering and aggressive person Is oniy expressing an underlying feeling
of insecurity In his behaviour and speech he shows he want to be domineering and will not brook opposition as this would expose his failures. The cure in this case is to
build up the child's self confidence. Let him develop a feeling that he too can be successful and gradually the
feeling of insecurity will disappear.
(e) The contact a child has with other people:
For wholesome social development a child should have opportunity to imitate, and observe Other people
especially in their social context. He should nave
opportunity for role practice getting into membership in
organizations and societies, Boy scouts, Bible Society, etc
(f) Level of Maturation
pattern of social Behaviour depends on the age of the child. with increase in age the child develops mentally also.
Socio- Economic Backaround of the Child:
Whether or not a child comes from a home where all his needs are met or whether he has to admit certain
deprivations, or whether he comes from a home where there are several other children will affect his social development. The peer group he moves with is also relevant in this case. It is observed that children from
lower status family tend to develop more domestic skills and this tend to affect their social attitude.
(h) Intellectual ability:
A person who is intelligent will be able to remember names and fits in better in the society.
However, they may also know how to plan to hurt other
people. In occupational spheres he may show more interest in sedentary work and this may eventually reduce
his sociability. So, intellectual ability is a two-way factor.
