Here comes part 2 of my English class on The FACE fashion show. As I told you about what happened in the morning (check the link below) the afternoon is our actual activity and how the student gets to put what they learn into use.
My English Class of the FACE fashion show: Part 1 - Morning Class
Before getting to what happened in the afternoon, let me explain why I called this activity "The FACE". The Face was a British reality television competition to find 'The Face' or the presenter of the brand, which they sponsored. I watched both the UK one and the Thai one, needless to say, I enjoyed it very much. I used it as a theme for the class today.
I like this show because they have these 'Mentors', who are professionally successful in the modeling career to guide the team. Hence, not only do we get to see the competitors try so hard to compete against each other, the mentors have to use every trick in their bags to make their team win. On that day, we had special guests join the class, a real celebrity from a Thai TV show. All the staffs and the students are very much excited and after the briefing, we are ready. Let's go, team!
There were 4 celebrity/ professional models that day, so I assigned them to be the mentors of each team (Soon, you'll see why). After the introduction is the instruction for the afternoon session. What our purpose for the class is and what we are going to be doing.
The team that can create the most stylish and creative with the lowest budget will be the winning team of that day and there'll be 2 categories for the outfits of each team, which I'll elaborate on during the runway show later.
We started our activity with the 'Team Selection'. To be the winning team, the 4 mentors needed to (wisely) choose the right team member...
...by showing their team's sign/plate to pick the team member, if there were more than 1 mentor to show their interest in that person, he/she will get to choose the mentor/the team instead.
It's so much fun seeing them fighting for the desired team member and persuading them to join the team.
After the students get sorted into groups, they worked in their groups with the help of the mentors to come up with the idea of the 2 outfits.
I gave each team the same amount of (fake) money and set up this second-hand clothes market for them to find the best material to work with.
I assigned the market team to be the mean and stingy sellers. Not just because it's amusing but to make sure it's so challenging that the students needed to step a little out of their comfort zone and speak more English.
Extra points if they use the words and phrases that they learned in the morning. Not only that they communicate to buy but also to bargain for the cheapest price they can get.
Some students might need a little bit more encouragement than others to speak English, but with the kindness and calmness of the staff, everybody overcome their insecurity and speak up!
Everybody worked in their group to create 2 outfits and a short English presentation for each outfit on the runway.
My team and I set up (what I called) the "Main Stage" for the runway at the coffee shop next to our class. Before the `real´ runway show, each team gets to practice and precise the walk a little.
The prices are waiting for the winners.. Who was it? I´m afraid you have to find out in next episode..
As I'm trying to keep it short, that'll be for today's post for you guys to casually read them. Moreover, since I find all the runway walks of each group are so well-done and worth writing for, so I want to take the whole fashion lot to the next post. This is super cool. It's obvious you put a lot of effort into this day and everyone seems to have had a great time. Wish my teachers cared as much when I was a kid.
Luckily, I had these helpers to make my vision come true so kudos to them too 🥰🥰 These students just accidentally got a super energetic teacher like me. haha So we get to go a little crazy lol
