Actions are a direct reflection of a person's beliefs and values, while words can be easily manipulated or used to deceive. Actions, especially in difficult situations, can reveal a person's true character and how they handle pressure or challenges. We can find many examples from our day to day life. A simple example is our politician. A politician who makes promises but doesn't deliver is an example of words not matching actions. To highlight the traits of such people, Sanskrit has following words to say :
कुसुमं वर्णसंपन्नं गन्धहीनं न शोभते.
न शोभते क्रिया हीनं मधुरं वचनं तथा.
Kusumam varnasampannam gandhheenam na shobhate.
Na shobhate kriyaa heenam madhuram vachanam tathaa.
Kusum = a flower.
Varnasampannam = having bright colour(s).
Varna = colour.
Sampanna = having, doing.
Gandh = odour, sweet smell.
Shobhate = adored, liked.
Kriyaa = action, performance.
Heenam = without.
Madhuram = pleasing.
Vachanam = talk, speaking.
It states that, A flower having bright colours but without any sweet smell is not adored. Similarly only pleasing talk (mere promises) without being backed by any action is not liked by anybody.
When someone consistently acts in a way that matches their words, it builds trust and credibility. In everyday life, being kind, keeping promises, helping others, and staying honest matter much more than saying you will do those things. "Actions speak louder than words" means that what someone does reveals their true intentions and character more than what they say, because actions are concrete and demonstrate sincerity.
