It always happen that many of us are not satisfied with the marks obtained in the school term exams. We always thrive to get more. We do not remain content with what we get but always try to get more in next term to break the previous standard. We are greedy, like many others people around the world who always wants more and better in their life. To quote this human behavior the Sanskrit scholar have pinpointed the greed factor. It states :
Vayamih paritushtaa valkalaistwam cha lakshmyaa (dukulaih)
Samamiha paritoshe nirvishesho visheshh
Sa bhawati daridro yasya trushnaa vishalaa
Manasi cha paritushtokorthwaan ko daridrah.
Valkal = clothes made out of barks of wood (e.g.hemp) i.e.very ordinary clothes.
Dukulaaih = garments made out of silk (costly garments).
Lakshmyaa = riches.
Sama = equal.
Iha = here , now.
Nirvishesh = ordinary.
Vishesh = special.
*If a person while provided with garments made out of barks of trees or made out of silk (costly garments) remains satisfied in either of the situations i.e. ordinary and extraordinary, then it is immaterial for him if he become rich or poor. On the other hand a person who is very greedy is really poor (because he always desires for more and feels himself as poor).
From an evolutionary standpoint, the drive to acquire more resources like food and shelter provided a survival advantage, leading to this ingrained desire for "more" in our psychology. As we fulfill certain needs in life, new needs often emerge, driving us to seek further goals and achievements.
